FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Ferre institute, inc. Is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and expansion of infertility services and quality services in genetics and reproductive health. It promotes the health of individuals and families by providing information and education about genetics, infertility, environmental exposures and family history, and integrating advances in these areas into personal health management. It was founded in 1974 to offer training in infertility, adoption and medical genetics. It provides information to the public through community lectures and resources on several educational websites. Additionaly, informational videos are made available for the deaf community. Many of the websites invite the public to email questions to program staff for additional information, referral or guidance. The genetic counseling program provides individualized risk assessment and assists referring physicians in genetic testing for inherited conditions. In additon, the program provides medical genetic education for the medical community. Trained genetic counselors are available for consultation with physicians. The teratogen information is a telephone service that provides individualized risk assessment for inadvertent exposures in pregnancy (medications, drugs, viral and maternal health conditions) to consumers and/or medical practitioners. The programs are primarily funded through grants received through grants received from the united states department of health and human services and primarily the new york state department of health. There is some revenue to the programs from charges for publications, educational events, and for genetic services by clients able to contribute. Currently, there are two contracts with upstate new york health systems to support genetic counseling services for their patients.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Identification of risk factors to limit the burden of infertility. Educational programs consider risk identification, treatment and family building options (foster care and adoption). The infertility education website is complemented by a social media strategy that includes a facebook page and twitter postings. In early 2016, the infertility education program initiated a planning phase for a new preconception education program that aims to weave the interility education program into a new initiative titled "step by step", a comprehensive education and risk assessment program that promotes awareness about modifiable and non- modifiable risk factors and to offer evidence based information to consumers and clinicians.
