Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The hey, mozart new mexico biennial child composer project is designed to draw children to music and create a repertoire of music by children and for children. Children 12 and under from around the state of new mexico are invited to compose and submit original melodies either in music notation or through a recording. 17 melodies (16 composers and one master class composer) are selected and orchestrated for chorus, orchestra or band by university or professional musicians. The competition year 2013 ended with a final concert on november 1, 2013 featuring the child composers performing the original melody and ensembles playing the arranged versions of the works. The non-competion year (2014) is devoted to securing performance opportunities for the children in their local communitites. In additional to concerts, the project seeks interviews for the children in the press, radio and television. These various activities contribute to the children's self confidence and music interest.
