Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART XI, LINE 9:

Gain/loss on post retirement benefits 20,346.

FORM 990, PART XII, QUESTION 2C:

Afb prepares consolidated financial statements. Audit committee assumes the responsibility for oversight of the audit of afb's consolidated financial statements and selection of an independent accountant.

Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 1A:

Collection items, acquired through contributions from the estate of helen keller, consisting of memorabilia and personal writings, are not capitalized on the consolidated statement of financial position.

PART V, LINE 4:

The intended use of the earnings from endowment funds is to carry out afb's mission of "expanding possibilities for people with vision loss" within the restrictions placed on afb by the donor of each endowment.

PART X, LINE 2:

The foundation adopted the provisions of fasb accounting standards codification no. 740-10, "accounting for uncertainty in income taxes" on july 1, 2009. With few exceptions, neither entity is subject to u.s. Federal or state income tax examinations by tax authorities for years before 2012. Management is of the opinion that neither entity has any material uncertain tax positions and, accordingly, recognizes no liability for unrecognized benefits.
