IRS990/Desc0In 2018, staff and volunteers made 40,018 get-out-to-vote calls in the general election and 16,535 calls in the primary election to young and new voters across Montana. In addition to making phone calls, we sent 26,370 text messages reminding voters to cast their ballots and sent 19,658 mailers that utilized a social pressure message to turn young voters out to vote.We distributed 48,300 voters guides through direct mail, at community events, Student Voter Day celebrations across 9 college campuses, and at local businesses. We hosted in-person candidate forums in Bozeman, Missoula, and Billings to give young people the opportunity to engage directly with candidates. Our staff researched and created materials that compared our endorsed candidates to their competitors on three issues that matter to young people: climate change, education and health care. These materials included 22,407 mailers and 24 large posters and 2,500 door hangers distributed across Billings, Bozeman and Missoula. We supported student and administrative leaders in hosting Student Voter Day on nine campuses across Montana. During Student Voter Day, student voters could get resources about where candidates stood on issues, ask questions about how and where to cast their vote and drop off of their ballot. In 2018 FMT graduated 36 interns Community Organizing Internship Program wiht field and classroom experience in grassroots tactics and strategies, including campaign planning, fundraising, volunteer development, racial equity, and understanding power. These intern classes were hosted in Bozeman, Billings, and Missoula.Staff and volunteers advocated for issues that reflect the experiences and vision of our generation including LGBTQ equality and economic justice. We worked with coalition partners on oppose an inititive that discriminated against transgender, non-binary, and two-spirit Montanans. Because of the collabortive work, the initiative failed to make it to the ballot. We also worked in coalition to pass the 6-Mill Levy, a funding measure for the Montana University System. We trained and supported student leaders on campuses across the Montana University System in getting their peers out to vote, storytelling, story collecting, earned media, and collecting vote pledges from 8,365 students. FMT created and distributed 48,300 non-partisan voter guides that highlighted where candidates stand on issues important to young people during the elections in Montana. Volunteers and staff distributed these voter guides at local colleges and universities, coffee shops and local businesses, and door-to-door in areas where young people live. Our staff and volunteers made 40,018 calls and sent 26,370 texts about how, why and when of voting.
