Use of alternative fuels by alabama governmental agencies in their fleets in 2014 were as follows: alabama department of transportation used 44,900 gallons of b20 biodiesel and 294,100 gallons of e85 ethanol; the alabama department of corrections used 50,200 gallons of propane; the city of hoover used 177,100 gallons of e85 ethanol; the marshall space flight center used 34,900 gallons of e85 ethanol and 7,00 gge of electricity; the city of birmingham used 177,600 gallons of e85 ethanol and 3,200 gallons of propane; the birmingham-jefferson county transit authority(bjcta)used 992,000 gge of cng and 450kg of hydrogen; the acfc developed public access cng station at the bjcta facility dispensed 123,700 gge of cng to the general public; the city of mobile used 17,200 gallons of propane and the mobile county schools used 37,800 gallons of propane; the city of trussville used 36,500 gge of cng; the lee county sheriff's office used 20,500 gallons of propane used 9,200 gallons of propane; the alabama state docks used 5,200 gallons of propane; the city of gadsden used 1,900 gallons of b20 biodiesel; the city of vestavia hills used 9,700 gallons of propane; lawson state community college used 2,500 gallons of cng and 800 gallons of e85 ethanol; the lee county sheriff's office used 22,000 gallons of propane; the town of gordo used 3,600 gge of cng; the alabama state docks used 3,700 gallons of propane; the city of athens used 54,300 gge of cng; the city of eufaula used 9,100 gallons of b40 biodiesel; the city of gadsden used 105,000 gallons of b20 biodiesel and 11,800 gallons of e85 ethanol;the city of tuscaloosa used 3,900 gallons of propane; auburn university used 38,700 gallons of propane and 10,800 gge of electricity in their student transportation system; lawson state community college used 600 gge of electricity;and waste vegetable oil to biodiesel initiatives continued at the alabama institute for the deaf & blind, and alabama a&m university where the programs produced almost 1,500 gallons of b100 biodiesel. Acfc programs and activities have laid the foundation for additional alternative fuel infrastructure projects that will increase the availability of cleaner burning fuels to the public in alabama during 2015, and beyond. Increasing availability of these fuels will improve air quality. In addition, other potential projects were identified for future funding and/or technical assistance. These acfc programs and activities serve to lessen the burdens of government. These acfc activities also further a charitable purpose by improving the environment, which promotes social welfare. Education:dissemination of information- during 2014, acfc conducted three workshops covering cng and first responder safety and three press conferences to educate public officials and the general public about the benefits associated with the use of alternative fuels.
