LABYRINTH THEATER COMPANY'S MISSION IS TO CREATE A HOME FOR DIVERSE THEATER ARTISTS AND THE DARING AND VISCERAL WORK THEY CREATE. LABYRINTH WAS FOUNDED IN 1992 BY A GROUP OF 13 LATINO ACTORS WHO FELT THAT THEIR WORLDVIEW WAS NOT BEING REPRESENTED ON THE AMERICAN STAGE. THEY STROVE TO BRING DIFFERENT VOICES AND STORIES TO LIFE ON STAGE, BUILD A SENSE OF COMMUNITY AND COMPASSION, AND INVITE THE AUDIENCE TO SEE THE WORLD THROUGH ANOTHER'S PERSPECTIVE. OVER THE YEARS, THE COMPANY HAS PERFORMED STORIES FEATURING A RICH CAST OF CHARACTERS, FROM TWO PRISON INMATES WHO DISCOVER FRIENDSHIP IN CONFINEMENT (JESUS HOPPED THE 'A' TRAIN), TO A FORMER POLITICAL PRISONER LIVING IN BROOKLYN TRYING TO CONNECT TO HIS ESTRANGED DAUGHTER (SUNSET BABY), TO OUR 2018 WORLD PREMIERE OF MAGGIE DIAZ BOFILL'S INCENDIARY PLAY (DEVIL OF CHOICE) ABOUT SEXUAL AND IDENTITY POLITICS. TODAY, OUR RESIDENT COMPANY OF OVER 135 ACTORS, DIRECTORS, DESIGNERS AND WRITERS CONTINUES TO UPHOLD OUR FOUNDING VISION THROUGH THE STEADY INTRODUCTION OF NEW AND NON-TRADITIONAL WORKS OF THEATER TO THE AMERICAN STAGE. IN OUR 2018-2019 SEASON, WE HELD THE COMPANY'S ANNUAL BARN SERIES NEW WORKS READING SERIES, SHOWCASING WORKS FROM THE COMPANY'S ESTABLISHED PLAYWRIGHTS, ALONGSIDE WORKS BY EMERGING WRITERS THAT REFLECT THE DIVERSE VOICES OF THE CITY THAT WE CALL OUR HOME, AND PRODUCED OUR ANNUAL SUMMER INTENSIVE RETREAT, THE FIRST STAGE IN OUR THREE-PART NEW PLAY DEVELOPMENT PROCESS, AT BROOKLYN COLLEGE IN BROOKLYN. OVER THE YEARS LABYRINTH'S CREATIVE APPROACH HAS NURTURED MORE THAN 60 NEW AMERICAN PLAYS AND RESULTED IN MANY ACCOLADES, INCLUDING SIX TONY AWARD NOMINATIONS, 15 DRAMA DESK AWARD NOMINATIONS, AND AN EDINBURGH FRINGE FIRST AWARD. LABYRINTH WORKS SUCH AS OUR LADY OF 121ST STREET BY STEPHEN ADLY GUIRGIS, AND A VIEW FROM 151ST STREET, BY BOB GLAUDINI, ARE WIDELY PERFORMED, HELPING TO FORM A NEW GENERATION OF AUDIENCES AND THEATER PROFESSIONALS. AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT AND MARKETING: OUR PLAYS SPEAK TO ONE OF THE YOUNGEST AND MOST DIVERSE AUDIENCES OF ANY OFF BROADWAY COMPANY.$0$62,462
