Internship in lighting for recent students. Professional designers interview 4 to 8 candidates. Interviews are held in ny city in late march or early april. Applicants submit a resume, 3 letters of recommendation, an essay stating professional goals and anticipated benefits from participating in the program. One candidate receives the award annually.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 29

The internship hosts an annual two-day portfolio review for young aspiring lighting designers at which they can present their portfolio and have it reviewed by professional designers, directors, and production managers. In addition, there is a showing of portfolios open to the public and a series of educational seminars are offered during the two days. The review presents approximately 30 student designers annually and the work is reviewed and/or seen by approximately 150 people at each review.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 30

The internship presents a master class on design annually at the united states institute of theater technology (usitt), the national trade show for the theater industry. The event is led by an established professional designer and attracts approximately 200 people each year.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 31

The internship provides financial support to a mentor-mentee combination based on a jointly-submitted proposal and budget. The support is designed to help a designer include the mentee in an ongoing professional situation where the mentor can provide close supervision and guidance to the mentee.
