Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The armory foundation, a nyc not-for-profit and home to the premier indoor track and field center in america, is committed to serving youth by promoting excellence and fitness through a broad range of athletic, educational and community programs. The armory foundation's primary emphasis is reaching and motivating the youth of all five boroughs of new york city by offering them competitive track and field activities and broadening their horizons with computer classes, college preparation programs and a variety of cultural and school-coordinated educational activities. The armory foundation hosts over 100 track events each year, maintains the national track and field hall of fame, operates the largest after-school activity center in new york and offers a variety of community support programs in its world class facility.

Governance Explanations

The executive director and coo reviewed the 990 before it was filed. The 990 was then reviewed by the audit committee and a copy of the 990 was provided to all board members.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The armory's conflict of interest policy is reviewed each year, and signed at the september board of director's meeting of the year. The policy is monitored by dr. Norbert sander who is in regular contact with the board members. If a conflict should arise, dr. Sander would recuse the individual from voting on that particular matter.

The executive director's compensation and performance is reviewed annually by the executive committee using comparability data for similarly qualified persons. There is contemporaneous documentation and recordkeeping for deliberations and decisions regarding the compensation arrangement. This process was last performed july 1, 2014.

THIS IS A PROGRAM OFFERED TO STUDENTS WHO RUN AT THE ARMORY AND IS AIMED AT THE WASHINGTON HEIGHTS COMMUNITY TO HELP WITH HIGH SCHOOL PLACEMENT, ACADEMIC SUPPORT AND TO ENCOURAGE FAMILY INVOLVEMENT. 4)TECH AND LEARNING CENTER - A FORTY-STATION COMPUTER LAB OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY FOR ESL CLASSES, GED CLASSES AND A SERIES OF INTRODUCTORY CLASSES EXPLORING THE VARIOUS SOFTWARE PRODUCTS AVAILABLE FOR EVERYDAY USE. 5)TRAINING - TRAINING - AN AVERAGE OF 2,000 NEW YORK CITY STUDENTS PRACTICE AT THE ARMORY EACH TUESDAY AND THURSDAY FROM NOVEMBER TO APRIL ON THE FABLED ARMORY TRACK. SCHOOL-AFFILIATED COACHES ACCOMPANY STUDENTS, BUT MOST OF THESE COACHES ARE ONLY FLUENT IN ONE AREA OR SPORT OF TRACK & FIELD. FOR EXAMPLE, FEW ARE EXPERTS IN THROWING, POLE VAULTING OR RACE WALKING. TO ADDRESS THIS, THE ARMORY PROVIDES SUPPLEMENTAL COACHING STAFF PAID BY THE ARMORY TO HELP MANY STUDENTS REACH THEIR GOALS. THE ARMORY BRINGS IN THESE COACHES IN ORDER TO PROVIDE THE STUDENTS WITH BEST POSSIBLE EXPERIENCE
