Mission

The center provides space and programs for community-building, community celebration and community services for residents of Nyack and and all of Rockland County. The Center's purposes include creating connections across social, cultural and economic boundaries to improve the life of the community; serving groups of all kinds by providing programs for the immediate neighborhoods as well as the larger area of the Nyacks and the County at large; and nurturing and empowering children and responding to the particular needs of children and families through educational and recreational programs and events.

OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Breakfast Club - THE breakfast Club provides ABOUT 44 children, grades K-8 with nurturing, educational and recreational activities and a nourishing breakfast before school, from 7am to 8:15am. In collaboration with The Nyack School District, students are bused to their various schools. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Computer Time - the program provides about 25 youth daily with computer and recreational activities Monday-Friday 5:30-8:30 pm throughout the year. The program was created to meet the urgent need to provide computer and internet access for the substantial number of children and youth in our community who do not have access to a computer at home. A Computer Coach and Tutor supervise and mentors the youth. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Family Connections - Family Connections at Nyack Center, (previously under the Rockland Parent Child Center OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: Community ServicesNyack Winter Farmers MarketA new collaboration with Nyack Chamber of Commerce began in 2012. Nyack Indoor Farmers Market held in Nyack Center every Thursday from 8-2 through May 2.Face 2 FaceFree counseling services for youth and their families one evening a week at Nyack Center. This program is done in collaboration with CANDLE. Other Activities and ProgramsThe Center serves as the location for over thirteen other local projects and programs. In addition, the building is rented out for community purposes and for private functions.In the wake of the outbreak of COVID-19. Thanks to our partnership with Nyack Public Schools, we have distributed over 30,000 breakfast and lunches to children in our community, along with groceries and dinners. Due to the pandemic, Nyack Center was open M-F from 9:30 am until 1 for food distribution. We will be distributed take out bagged breakfast and lunch to children on free and reduced lunch. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: Teen CouncilA substance free performance program for teenagers. A student board and one adult advisor coordinates the program. and meet twice a month to plan events and activites. Free and open to all community teens. A collaborative project with O.C.A.D.A and Nyack Public Schools. Program was closed in 2021 and resumed in 2022. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: Summer Youth Enrichment - In 2022, in addition to Camp Nyack, Nyack Center hosts an onsiite program for up to 35 youth. Summer Youth Enrichment is open M-F for 10 weeks. The Program is free with breakfast and lunch and classes including drama, dance, chess, sound production, videography, and gaming. Program closed in 2022, 2021 and resumed in 2022. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 10: Face 2 Face - Free counseling services for youth and their families one evening a week at Nyack Center. This program is done in collaboration with CANDLE. Program closed in 2020 and 2021 to resume in 2022. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 11: Other Activities and Programs - The Center serves as the location for other local projects and programs. In addition, the building is rented out for community purposes and for private functions. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 12: After Care - in 2022, the program provided about 20 youth daily with recreation activities Monday - Friday 5:30-6:30 pm throughout the year. The Program was crated to meet the need to provide computer and internet access for the substantial number of children and youth in our community extended care while their parents are at work. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 13: Tutoring - In its second year, certified teachers provide one on one tutoring to students in our after-school program. Teachers also provide free tutoring during the school year for Middle School and High School students in the evenings, Tuesday & Wedenesday 5:30-8pm. This is a collaboration with Nyack Public Schools.

Children have a nutritious snack, do their homework, work one on one with tutors, and participate in health and wellness classes established by Rebecca and Peter Lang, like yoga, dance, art and cooking. In response to the effects fo the pandemic, the programs and activities are designed to: support our children's socioemotional wellbeing, give them opportunities to explore their feelings and find lasting ways to manage challenges. Camp runs for 6 weeks, 5 days a week from 8:30-3.Camp Nyack was housed at Marydell Faith and Life Center. Activities included free breakfast and lunch, swimming, arts and crafts, dance, art, yoga, reading, and swimming. Campers pay on a sliding saale dependant on family income.
