Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The organization provides arts-based education programming to influence and affect how subject matter is taught in public school classrooms so that the students will be more engaged in their learning,develop 21st century skills,and be prepared for the modern world.nearly one hundred percent of the schools uap serves are title i (high poverty) learning communities. Uap aims to engage and improve the performance of various student groups, including english language learners (recent immigrants), students in temporary housing, students with individualized education plans (ieps), students with social behavioral problems, students entering school at low achievement levels, and exceptional students who are not provided with opportunities to express their capacity.

Advances the intellectual, artistic and social development of underserved public school students through arts-integrated education programs to close the achievement gap.

IN 2012, UAP WAS CHOSEN TO RECEIVE PRO-BONO STRATEGIC PLANNING SERVICES FROM MCKINSEY & CO., WHO SUPPORTED THE ORGANIZATION IN CREATING A 5-YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN. THESE THREE HIGH PROFILE RESEARCH GRANTS ARE DESIGNED TO TEST AND SCALE INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO SOLVING THE COUNTRY'S MOST PRESSING EDUCATIONAL CHALLENGES AND WILL PROVIDE AN IMMENSE AMOUNT OF DATA AND KNOWLEDGE ABOUT WHAT WORKS IN ARTS EDUCATION. IN THIS WAY, UAP IS AN ORGANIZATION POISED TO MAKE A SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TO THE FIELD. FRESH PREPOUR FRESH PREP PROGRAM HARNESSES THE POWER OF HIP-HOP MUSIC AND YOUTH CULTURE TO HELP STUDENTS WHO HAVE FAILED THE REGENTS EXAM-REQUIRED FOR GRADUATION IN NEW YORK-TO GAIN THE CONFIDENCE, VOCABULARY, AND CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS THEY NEED TO PASS THE TEST AND GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL.
