WRITERS SUBMIT PAGES FROM WORK THEY ARE DEVELOPING AND ACTORS ARE CAST ON THE SPOT FOR COLD READINGS OF FIVE BRAND NEW WORKS EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER THROUGH MAY. EACH EVENING, THE THEATER IS FILLED WITH A POSITIVE, CREATIVE ENERGY THAT IS PALPABLE. THE CHANCE TO SEE AND PARTICIPATE IN NEW THEATRICAL WORKS IS A BIG DRAW. WE ALSO RECOGNIZE THAT THE NEED FOR COMMUNITY IS GREATER THAN EVER.SONGWRITERS ARE ALSO GIVEN A SLOT EACH NIGHT. LOS ANGELES, MIAMI AND CHICAGO HAVE ALL SEEN GROWTH AND CURRENTLY SERVE ABOUT 40-100 PEOPLE A NIGHT. 1ST MONDAYS, OUR FULL LENGTH PLAY READING SERIES, GENERALLY BRINGS IN ABOUT 30-50 AUDIENCE MEMBERS. CHICAGO AND LA BOTH HAD TWO 1ST MONDAYS READINGS AND NYC HAD FOUR.3T WRITING WORKSHOPS ARE THE EDUCATIONAL/INSPIRATIONAL WING OF NAKED ANGELS. CREATED FOR PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, WE HAVE EAGERLY EMBRACED THE CHANCE TO ALSO SERVE CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE AND YOUTH FACING INCARCERATION. IN OUR WORKSHOPS, THE STUDENTS ARE GIVEN THE ENCOURAGEMENT AND OPPORTUNITY TO WRITE FREELY AND SEE THEIR WORK PERFORMED BY PROFESSIONAL ACTORS.TUESDAYS@9 IN MIAMI OUTGREW THEIR SPACE AND MOVED TO THE SPEAKEASY THEATER FOR THE FALL SEASON. ALL CITIES REPORTED GROWTH IN DIVERSITY (PEOPLE OF COLOR, PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES, IMMIGRANTS, LGBTQ, NON-BINARY, TRANS, AND MILITARY VETERANS.) AMONG AUDIENCES AND ARTISTS. MANY SCREENPLAYS WERE MADE INTO FILMS AND FOUND SUCCESS ON THE FESTIVAL CIRCUIT.LA TUESDAYS SAW LARRY CLARKE'S FILM 3 DAYS WITH DAD OPENED IN TEN THEATERS NATIONWIDE IN SEPTEMBER 2019. RAMY YOUSSEFF, PERFORMED NEW MATERIAL FOR THE RAMY COMEDY TV SERIES ON HULU, 2019.AT CHICAGO TUESDAYS , JOSHUA FARDON WAS A SEMI-FINALIST IN THE EUGENE O'NEILL THEATRE CENTER NATIONAL PLAYWRIGHTS CONFERENCE, 2019 WITH HIS PLAY SADIE HURTZ , AND MICHAEL HIGGINS'S PLAY, TRACY AND HER DREAM GUYS WAS PUBLISHED IN THE BEST NEW TEN-MINUTE PLAYS 2019 FROMROWMAN & LITTLEFIELD. WE SERVED MORE CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE BUT FEWER FROM PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL. WHILE OUR 3T SUMMER STYLE FOR FILM AND THEATER PROGRAM IS IMMENSELY POPULAR AND ALWAYS GENERATES A WAITING LIST, OUR REGULAR AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN MORE LIGHTLY ATTENDED. STUDENTS TELL US THE WORKLOAD AND STRESS OF HIGH SCHOOL IS THE CAUSE. THEY ASK US FOR WORKSHOPS DURING WINTER AND SPRING BREAK. WE HOPE TO ADDRESS THIS IN THE UPCOMING TWO YEARS.ALL OF OUR STUDENTS SEEM IN SOME WAY TO BE TRANSFORMED BY THE WORKSHOPS.WE RECEIVED EXTRA FUNDING FROM THE PATRINA FOUNDATION FOR RESTART EUPHRASIAN, A DISTRICT 79 DOE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS IN FOSTER CARE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED EXTREME TRAUMA AND NEED DIAGNOSIS AND THERAPY. WE WERE ABLE TO BRING WORKSHOPS TO THE GIRLS TWICE A MONTH.SEEING THE GIRLS MORE FREQUENTLY HAD IMPACTS BEYOND OUR IMAGINING. THEY BECAME INVESTED IN THE ACTORS AND TEACHING ARTISTS, REQUESTING THAT FAVORITES RETURN. SOME OF THE GIRLS, KNOWING WE WERE COMING BACK, BROUGHT WORK TO THE WORKSHOP THAT THEY HAD WRITTEN ON THEIR OWN. MANY OF THE STUDENTS AT RESTART STRUGGLE ACADEMICALLY DUE TO YEARS OF NEGLECT. ACCORDING TO THE STAFF, THE WORKSHOPS BUILD CONFIDENCE IN THIS AREA. AS THE STUDENTS BECAME MORE FAMILIAR WITH THE WORKSHOP, THEY TOOK CHANCES WITH THEIR WRITING. MUCH OF THE WRITING BECAME MORE AND MORE IMAGINATIVE. MANY OF THE SCENES SEEMED TO RELEASE A PLAYFULNESS FROM THE GIRLS, A REAL BREAK FROM THEIR ACTUAL SITUATIONS.WE HELD A NEW EXPERIMENTAL VIDEO COLLAGE WORKSHOP AT RESTART. THE TWO GIRLS CHOSEN HAD VASTLY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES DUE TO THEIR TEMPERAMENTS. WE LEARNED THAT NOT ONLY HAVE THESE GIRLS MISSED OUT ON SO MUCH EDUCATION, THEY ALSO LACK COMPUTER SKILLS. THE CHILD WHO WAS EASILY FRUSTRATED FELL BEHIND AND QUIT. THE MORE RESILIENT CHILD HAD A GREAT EXPERIENCE. WE ARE USING THIS INFORMATION TO BUILD A BETTER WORKSHOP THIS YEAR.OUR 3T SUMMER STYLE FILM AND THEATER WORKSHOP WAS ONE OF OUR BEST EVER. 10 PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS MADE 4 FILMS AND 10 THEATER SCENES AND HAD AN ABSOLUTE BLAST. ALL FOUR FILMS ARE ON OUR WEBSITE.STACY DAVIDOWITZ, OUR LEAD TEACHING ARTIST AT 3T, WAS OUT ON MATERNITY LEAVE FOR 4 MONTHS, NOVEMBER TO APRIL. THE CIRCUMSTANCE FORCED US TO HIRE NEW TAS. ALL FIVE OF OUR EXCELLENT NEW TA'S ARE PERSONS OF COLOR, THREE ARE FLUENT IN SPANISH. AT EVERY WORKSHOP OUR ACTORS REPRESENT OUR CITY WITH 50% OF THE TEAM BEING PEOPLE OF COLOR.DURING THE SUMMER WE WERE ABLE TO BRING A WORKSHOP TO ABBOTT HOUSE BRONX. CREATED FOR PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, WE HAVE EAGERLY EMBRACED THE CHANCE TO ALSO SERVE CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE AND YOUTH FACING INCARCERATION.
