Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Bailey house's mission is to help transform the lives of people with or at risk of hiv/aids or other chronic illnesses through housing, health services and community.

Founded in 1983, bailey house was the first organization in the nation to address poverty and homelessness among people diagnosed with hiv/aids. Since then it's been on the forefront of creating innovative supportive housing and service delivery models that have served 1000s of men and women living with hiv/aids. Bailey house services focus on getting men and women living with hiv/aids and other chronic illnesses into comprehensive healthcare and supports them to adhere to treatments and stay in care. Bailey house also offers direct housing, housing placement assistance and mental health services to address the major barriers to care including homelessness, mental illness and drug use. This approach has resulted in greatly improved health outcomes, housing stability and improved emotional health. To build on its expertise, bailey house recently became a nationally recognized member of the trauma informed learning community, which now guides all client services and workforce policies

Annual certifications are required. All staff signs at the time of employment an affidavit of any conflict of interest. The policy states that if there are any changes, a notification is sent to the corporate compliance officer. All staff acknowledges that they understand and adhere to the bailey house,inc. Conflict of interest policies and procedures. Board members sign an affidavit annually. Board members must abstain themselves from participation in voting for any contracts or payments to vendors. All staff must disclose any potential conflicts when involved in the decision making process that would lead to a financial obligation. Staff cannot be involved in the process and failure to disclose could lead to termination.

BAILEY HOUSE ALSO OFFERED 500 WEEKLY PEER-BASED SUPPORT GROUPS FOCUSING ON HEALTH EDUCATION, RECOVERY AND RISK REDUCTION. THE NUTRITION AND WELLNESS PROGRAM CONSISTS OF A FOOD PANTRY, PROVIDING FOOD ASSISTANCE WITH GROCERY BAGS FOR CLIENTS AND THE GREATER SURROUNDING COMMUNITY, AS WELL AS NUTRITION EDUCATION THROUGH COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS, NUTRITION WORKSHOPS AND PRINTED MATERIALS. IN 2013, THE FOOD PANTRY DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN 10,000 BAGS OF FOOD. IN 2012, BAILEY HOUSE OPENED A LICENSED BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CENTER IN EAST HARLEM, A NEIGHBORHOOD IN NYC WITH THE HIGHEST RATE OF PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITALIZATIONS AND THE SECOND HIGHEST RATE OF SUICIDE. THE CLINIC IS UNIQUE IN UPPER MANHATTAN BECAUSE IT IS OPENLY LGBT INCLUSIVE AND OPERATES WITH A HARM REDUCTION PHILOSOPHY. SINCE OPENING THE CLINIC, THE STAFF, INCLUDING THE PSYCHIATRIST HAVE PROVIDED MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES TO OVER 100 PATIENTS.
