FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4A, PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Programming: new york city ballet was proud to present 21 weeks of programming to 318,203 audience members during our 2023-24 75th anniversary season at the david h. Koch theater at lincoln center. The repertory performance periods were themed to tie into the anniversary. The foundation (fall), the evolution (winter), and the future (spring), in addition to the annual production of george balanchine's the nutcracker. Our fall season (the foundation) was an all-balanchine season, paying tribute to nycb's founding choreographer george balanchine and the incredible repertory he built. The season opened with a week of performances of jewels, and continued with performances of 18 other balanchine works including agon, apollo, la sonnambula, prodigal son, slaughter on tenth avenue, tarantella, theme and variations, and western symphony. During the winter season (the evolution) the company presented ballets from our co-founding choreographers, balanchine and jerome robbins, while presenting new work from the decades following balanchine's death in 1983, showcasing how nycb continued as a center for innovative ballet ideas. The winter season also presented two world premieres, nycb principal dancer tiler peck's first work for nycb concerto for two pianos, and artist in residence alexei ratmansky's solitude. The spring season (the future) focused largely on ballets which have joined our repertory in recent years, demonstrating the importance of collaborating with a diverse group of contemporary artists. Additionally, new works included resident choreographer justin peck's dig the say and amy hall garner's first work for nycb, underneath, there is light. Touring: touring expanded in fy24, with the company resuming its annual summer residency at the saratoga performing arts center in saratoga springs, ny july 17-23. In the spring a partial company toured to sold out houses at sadler's wells theatre in london from march 4-11 and then to the harris theater in chicago, il march 18-24. The season concluded with the annual tour to the john f. Kennedy center in washington, dc june 3-9. Education: new york city ballet (nycb) continued its robust suite of education programs for people of all ages and abilities during the 2023-24 season via school programs, access programs, and public programs. School programs included in-school residencies serving approximately 5,000 elementary students across 200 classrooms in 50 schools. Student matinees are a key component of all residency programs, bringing nycb's choreography and music to life and giving students an experience of attending a performance at the company's remarkable theater. In addition to our residencies, the recently launched studentix program provided 412 free tickets over five performances during nycb's winter and spring seasons to new york city public schools dance educators' middle and high school students and their families. Throughout the season, nycb conducted student tours of the david h. Koch theater as well, reaching 1,456 participants. Access programs included a variety of free, highly customized programming for children, teens, and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities, including workshops led by nycb dancers and teaching artists, artist visits to hospitals and schools, and attendance at performances at our theater. Nycb developed its first access program in 2014 in conjunction with the weinberg family cerebral palsy center at columbia university and has since established partnerships with 15+ organizations. In fy24 we conducted 46 individual access program workshops and bedside visits and two multi-workshop residencies, serving approximately 1,500 people with disabilities and their families. Additionally, nycb's sensory-friendly performances returned with a mixed-repertory program that welcomed over 800 attendees. Public programs provide opportunities for people of all ages to interact with members of the company and learn more about the legacy and innovation of nycb.

FORM 990, PART III, LINE 1, DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION MISSION:

New york city ballet remains dedicated to the vision of its founders, george balanchine and lincoln kirstein, as it pursues two primary objectives: to perform the ballets and preserve the dance aesthetic and standards of excellence they created and established; and to develop new work that draws on the creative talents of contemporary choreographers and composers, and speaks to the time in which it is made. This mission is accompanied by a commitment to expand the company's audience and make ballet accessible to the widest possible public through touring, education programs, the creative use of media, and other outreach efforts.

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

New york city ballet's endowments consist of both board-designated and donor-restricted funds. Donor restricted funds are established for a variety of purposes including education, touring, musical leadership, dance and many more. Endowment funds are in compliance with the new york prudent management of institutional funds act ("nypmifa").

PART X, LINE 2:

For city ballet, these provisions could be applicable to the incurrence of unrelated business income related to investment income and rental income. Because of city ballet's general tax-exempt status, asc 740 has not had, and is not expected to have, a material impact on its financial statements.
