Nature of organizations seaport museum new york, d/b/a south street seaport museum, is a not-for-profit educational institution chartered by the state of new york in 1967 and is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. The south street seaport museum, located in the heart of the south street seaport historic district in new york city, preserves and interprets the history of new york as a great port city. The south street seaport museum houses an extensive collection of works of art and artifacts, a maritime reference library, exhibition galleries and education spaces, working nineteenth century print shops, and an active fleet of historic vessels that all work to tell the story of "where new york begins." the south street seaport museum owns 100% of the outstanding common stock of ambrose management company, inc., a for-profit corporation, which had no activity in 2024. The consolidated financial statements of the south street seaport museum include ambrose management company, inc., the affiliate (collectively, the "museum"). Due to extensive flooding damage from hurricane sandy, the museum's main galleries at 12 fulton street have been closed since april 7, 2013. The museum has repurposed the ground floor lobby and mezzanine spaces as temporary galleries and opened several new exhibitions, beginning in early 2016. In 2024, south street seaport museum welcomed a total of 84,936 visitors, volunteers, and students who experienced interactive tours of historic ships and buildings, thoughtful public programs, and engaging education programs. Four historic vessels were visited by 35,209 individuals, who explored permanently moored vessels 1885 cargo ship wavertree and 1908 lightship ambrose and sailed in nyc's east river aboard 1885 schooner pioneer and 1930 tugboat w.o. Decker. 19,753 visitors were welcomed at indoor exhibitions at schermerhorn row, which in 2024 included "south street and the rise of new york; and "millions: migrants and millionaires aboard the great liners, 1900-1914." at the 19th century recreated print shop bowne & co. Stationers, master printers offered printing demonstrations and workshops for 20,683 visitors. Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 1A:

The museum's ships and antiquities and related improvements, which were acquired through purchases and contributions, are not recognized as assets on the consolidated statement of financial position. Purchases and improvements are recorded as decreases in unrestricted net assets in the year in which the purchases or improvements are made, or as temporarily restricted net assets if the assets used to purchase the items are restricted by donors. Contributed ships and antiquities are not reflected on the consolidated financial statements. Detailed inventory records, however, are maintained for the ships and antiquities and improvements. The value of the ships and antiquities is not readily determinable and the museum is not fully insured for the cost of their replacement.

PART III, LINE 4:

The seaport museum of new york's collections trace the history of the seaport throughout new york city, from the east river piers and the waterfront areas of manhattan to the city's other boroughs and the new jersey shoreline as it borders new york harbor. The museum collects artifacts, manuscripts, works of art, and other records which document three general areas: the commerce, work, and people that have contributed to the history of new york's seaport. The museum emphasizes acquiring integral and provenance bodies of material rather than undocumented individual items. The seaport museum new york is dedicated to the history of new york's seaport and recognizes the district as one of the most important ports in the world. The museum utilizes its assets {the collections) to provide a unique and authentic new york experience for peoples of all ages, that tells the story of the port's role in the development of the city, state, and nation as economic cultural and political powers.

PART V, LINE 4:

Proceeds generated from the investment of endowment funds is utilized for the support and continued enhancement of our educational programs in relation to the ports of new york, the seaport district and the museum's collection of art, artifacts and historic ships.
