Major Activities

Activity 2
The christopher awards - first presented in 1949, the christopher awards acknowledge that the role of the media is unique and its influence far-reaching. The awards were established in accord with the principles of the christophers to salute media that affirm the highest values of the human spirit. The awards are noncompetitive and their goal is to encourage men, women and children to pursue excellence in creative arenas that have the potential to influence a mass audience positively. In a nutshell, christopher award winners celebrate the humanity of people in a positive way. Award winners encourage audiences to see the better side of human nature and motivate artists and the general public to use their best instincts on behalf of others. Special awards are also given annually to a few individuals or programs who, over many years, have consistently made a positive difference in others' lives. Special awards are given to those who have woven a theme of hope -- similar to father keller's -- throughout their lives' work. Previous special award winners include leaders in the media industry; religious or lay leaders of charitable organizations and projects; and tv programs themselves.
Activity 3
Christopher leadership program and seminars - the christopher leadership program offers courses, seminars, and workshops to adults and youths. Participants explore life's purpose and challenges; build self-confidence, develop leadership qualities, grow in faith and spirituality, sharpen communication skills, and become more optimistic. The christopher leadership program for adults believes in individuals' untapped leadership potential and desire for self-improvement. Our mission is to help people use their talents to change the world. We are guided by the principles of our organization's founder, father james keller, m.m., that 1) each person has a god-given mission in life; 2) one person can make a difference in the world; and 3) positive, constructive actions work miracles. We believe in providing a supportive, friendly atmosphere that encourages everyone to live life with faith, courage and enthusiasm! The christopher leadership program for youth believes in youths' untapped leadership potential and desire for self-improvement. Our mission is to help youth explore life's purpose and challenges as well as the benefits of making positive choices through faith-based leadership development in a friendly, fun-filled atmosphere. Guided by the principles of our organization's founder, father james keller, m.m., that "one person can make a difference," we seek to help youth let their light shine! While the christopher leadership programs are based on judeo-christian beliefs and principles, the programs are open to all who seek to make a positive change in the world. Our classes are held at our headquarters in new york city, as well as at various venues around the united states and beyond (i.e. Taiwan). Besides the numerous majority of leadership classes taught in english, the christophers also teach a leadership course in spanish for a large hispanic population in the galveston, texas area.for over 65 years, the christophers have offered leadership and personal development training through the christopher leadership course. Based on christopher principles, our interactive programs provide participants with techniques for building communications and interpersonal skills as well as self-confidence and a positive attitude. Christopher training programs give students tools to discover and develop their natural leadership abilities and god-given talents for helping the less fortunate.the christophers also believe in the untapped leadership potential and desire for self-improvement of our youth. Young people want to make a difference in the world. For this reason, christopher leadership classes for youth offer hands-on leadership and communications skills training with a three-fold purpose: 1) to inspire young people to use their talents for helping others; 2) to explore their life's mission; and 3) to use positive decision-making in meeting life's challenges.

IRS990/MissionDescription0THE MISSION OF THE CHRISTOPHERS IS TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE OF ALL AGES, AND FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE, TO USE THEIR GOD-GIVEN TALENTS TO MAKE A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD. THE MISSION IS BEST EXPRESSED IN THE CHRISTOPHERS' MOTTO: "IT'S BETTER TO LIGHT ONE CANDLE THAN TO CURSE THE DARKNESS." WE BELIEVE THAT EACH PERSON HAS A GOD-GIVEN MISSION TO FULFILL, A PARTICULAR JOB TO DO, THAT HAS BEEN GIVEN TO NO ONE ELSE. LOVE AND TRUTH COME TO US THROUGH GOD, BUT THESE GIFTS ARE NOT OURS TO KEEP. BY SHARING THEM WITH OTHERS EACH OF US BECOMES A CHRIST-BEARER, A "CHRISTOPHER" IN THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL SENSE OF THAT WORD. IT IS THROUGH OUR LITERATURE, BROADCASTS, AWARDS AND LEADERSHIP COURSES THAT WE AT THE CHRISTOPHERS WORK TOWARD OUR MISSION, BRINGING POSITIVE AND CONSTRUCTIVE VALUES INTO THE MAINSTREAM OF LIFE. ALL ARE WELCOME TO JOIN US, KNOWING AS THEY DO THAT IN EMBRACING THE CHRISTOPHER MISSION THEY WILL SHARE ONE OVERRIDING COMMITMENT: THE LOVE OF ALL PEOPLE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
