Mission

Windward is a coeducational, independent day school dedicated to providing a proven instructional program for children with language-based learning disabilities. The multisensory curriculum is designed for students of average to superior intelligence who can benefit from the unique educational experience provided. Through direct instruction in small class settings, a trained staff assists students to improve their language skills. Academic success, combined with opportunities for social and emotional growth within an intentionally diverse and inclusive setting, enables students to understand their learning differences, build confidence, and develop self-advocacy skills. Windward is committed to helping students achieve their full potential in preparation for a successful return to a mainstream educational environment. To meet these goals, the school provides ongoing training to its faculty based on the most current research and shares its expertise with the parent body, other educators

The windward school is dedicated to fulfilling its mission of providinga proven educational program to students with language-based learning disabilities in first through ninth grade.students are of average to superior intelligence who have been unableto achieve academic success in traditional classroom settings. Atwindward, students receive the specialized instruction needed in orderto close the gap between intellectual potential and academicperformance. The program is designed to enable students to experiencesuccess, help them understand the nature of their learning differences,provide them with the skills and strategies to overcome their academicdifficulties, and enable them to return to mainstream settings. In 2017, the school served 796 students on its three campuses - two in westchester and one in new york city.

The windward school (the school) maintains permanently restricted net assets which consist of endowment fund assets to be held in perpetuity. The income from the assets can be used to support the school's general purposes, scholarships, professional development, faculty and staff, and schwartz lectures.

The school has determined that there are no material uncertain tax positions that require recognition or disclosure in the financial statements. Periods ending june 30, 2014 and subsequent remain subject to examination by applicable taxing authorities.
