Founded in 1950 by leaders representing a cross-section of major businesses and employers in the county at that time, the original mission of the association was to provide a strong and clear voice for the interests of businesses in the county.

IN JANUARY 2015, THE WCA LAUNCHED THE HUDSON VALLEY WORKFORCE ACADEMY. LEVERAGING ITS LEADERSHIP POSITION AND RELATIONSHIPS WITH REGIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION, BUSINESS, AND HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS, THE ACADEMY WAS CREATED TO HELP TRAIN WORKERS IN SKILLS THAT ARE IN HIGH DEMAND AND HELP OUR REGION ATTRACT AND RETAIN TALENT, UPGRADE THE SKILLS AND FOSTER JOB CREATION. PROGRAMS WERE DEVELOPED IN COLLABORATION WITH THE REGION'S EMPLOYERS AND FOCUS ON TRAINING THE EXISTING WORKFORCE IN HIGH-DEMAND SKILLS. IN COOPERATION WITH MEMBERS OF THE WCA'S INTEGRATED HEALTHCARE CONSORTIUM AND HIGHER EDUCATION COMMITTEE, THE FIRST PROGRAM DEVELOPED WAS IN HEALTHCARE ANALYTICS AND WAS OFFERED TWICE MORE IN 2016. A SUBSEQUENT COURSE WAS DEVELOPED TO FOCUS ON HONING CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS. OUR ROLE IN THE REGION IS TO DRIVE ECONOMIC VITALITY AND DEVELOPMENT IN WESTCHESTER AND THE REGION. WE BRING DIFFERENT GROUPS TO THE TABLE AND FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET THINGS DONE, EFFECTIVELY AND STRATEGICALLY.IN JULY 2015, THE WESTCHESTER COUNTY ASSOCIATION WAS SELECTED BY THE WESTCHESTER-PUTNAM WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD TO SERVE AS PROJECT MANAGER OF A $9.8 MILLION FEDERAL READY TO WORK PARTNERSHIP GRANT TO PROVIDE 425 LONG-TERM UNEMPLOYED INDIVIDUALS WITH INTENSIVE TRAINING FOR JOBS IN THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR. FUNDS FROM THE GRANT ARE TO BE USED FOR OUTREACH AND RECRUITMENT TO BETTER CONNECT WORKERS WITH HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE LOOKING TO HIRE; TO PROVIDE TRAINING AND SUPPORT SERVICES TO PEOPLE WHO ARE UNEMPLOYED BUT REQUIRE RETRAINING FOR JOBS IN HIGH DEMAND IN HEALTH CARE; AND TO FURTHER DEVELOP STRATEGIES TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF JOB PLACEMENTS. AS PROJECT MANAGER, THE WESTCHESTER COUNTY ASSOCIATION OVERSEES AND COORDINATES THE VARIOUS COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAM INCLUDING THE JOB READINESS BOOT CAMP, CAREER COACHES WHO SERVE AS CASE MANAGERS FOR THE PARTICIPANTS AND JOB DEVELOPERS WHO DEVELOP RELATIONSHIPS WITH AREA HEALTHCARE EMPLOYERS AND PROVIDE JOB MATCHING RESOURCES. THE GRANT SERVES THE SEVEN COUNTIES IN THE HUDSON VALLEY: WESTCHESTER, PUTNAM, ROCKLAND, ORANGE, DUTCHESS, ULSTER AND SULLIVAN. THE WESTCHESTER COUNTY ASSOCIATION WAS AWARDED THE ROLE OF PROJECT MANAGER BECAUSE OF ITS EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE MANAGING AND EXECUTING MULTI-PARTNER, MULTI-YEAR PROJECTS SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE GRANT PERIOD ENDS OCTOBER 31, 2018.IN OCTOBER 2016, THE WCA LAUNCHED A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP TO SPEARHEAD SMART GROWTH INITIATIVES IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY TO BRING GIGABIT BROADBAND, NEW BUSINESS, AND INNOVATION TO WESTCHESTER'S FOUR LARGEST CITIES.
