Governance Explanations

FORM 990, PART VI, SECTION B, LINE 11B:

Form 990 is prepared by the organization's cpa firm that conducted the audit using information we provided to them in the tax organizer. Draft form 990 is reviewed by the organization's cfo and a copy is provided to the executive director. Draft form 990 is reviewed by our finance committee chair and discussed at the finance committee meeting and provided to each voting board member who has the opportunity to raise questions or make inquiry. Any questions are addressed and form 990 is adjusted if appropriate before being filed with the irs.

FORM 990, PART VI, SECTION B, LINE 12C:

The organization annually monitors and enforces compliance with the conflicts of interest policy during board meetings.

FORM 990, PART VI, SECTION B, LINE 15A:

The human resource committee of the board of directors reviews and compares the compensation of the executive director using market surveys. After consideration of this data, the human resources committee makes a recommendation of compensation to the executive committee (all board officers) who vote and approve. The deliberation and decision are documented contemporaneously in the board of directors minutes.

The use of principal and income is to be retained for future site enhancements, space and program operations.

SCHEDULE D, PART X, LINE 2:

The center was incorporated in the state of new york and is exempt from federal and state income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code (irc) and therefore has made no provision for income taxes in the accompanying combined financial statements. The center has been determined by the internal revenue service (irs) not to be a "private foundation" within the meaning of section 509(a) of the irc. Under u.s. Gaap, an organization must recognize the tax liability associated with uncertain tax positions taken for tax return purposes when it is more likely than not that the position will not be sustained upon examination by a taxing authority. The center does not believe it has taken any material uncertain tax positions and, accordingly, it has not recorded any liability for unrecognized tax benefits. The center has filed for and received income tax exemptions in the jurisdictions where it is required to do so. Additionally, the center has filed irs form 990 information returns, as required, and all other applicable returns in jurisdictions where it is required to do so. The center is subject to routine audits by a taxing authority. As of june 30, 2024, the center was not subject to any examination by a taxing authority.

KENNETH B. AND MAMIE P. CLARK. THE ORGANIZATION WORKS TO ENSURE THAT THEOVER 3,000 CHILDREN AND FAMILIES SERVED EACH DAY ANNUALLY HAVE THE GREATEST OPPORTUNITY TO THRIVE. DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2024, WE HAVE CONTINUED TO PROVIDE ESSENTIAL EARLY CHILDHOOD, BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, AND EDUCATION SERVICES TO CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN NEED. THROUGH DEDICATION TO THE COMMUNITY AND CLINICAL EXPERTISE, NORTHSIDE BRINGS STABILITY AND HOPE TO FAMILIES FACING CRITICAL LIFE CHALLENGES AND HELPS BUILD BRIGHTER FUTURES THROUGH COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES AND INTERVENTION IN THREE (3) CRITICAL AREAS: A) BEHAVIORAL/MENTAL HEALTH, INCLUDING, EARLY CHILDHOOD MENTAL HEALTH AND HOME-BASED CRISIS INTERVENTION; B) PREVENTIVE SERVICES; AND C) EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT D) YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM A) BEHAVIORAL/MENTAL HEALTH CLINICAL PROGRAMS ARE NORTHSIDE'S MENTAL HEALTH OUTPATIENT TREATMENT AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES (MHOTRS) PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDES YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES WITH PSYCHIATRIC, PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGICAL, AND PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICES. CLINICAL STAFF ARE TRAINED IN EVIDENCE-BASED TREATMENT MODELS INCLUDING COGNITIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY (CBT), TRAUMA FOCUSED CBT (TFCBT), CHILD-PARENT PSYCHOTHERAPY, PERINATAL CHILD-PARENT PSYCHOTHERAPY, PARENT-CHILD INTERACTION THERAPY, TRIPLE P PARENTING PROGRAM, CIRCLE OF SECURITY, INTERPERSONAL PSYCHOTHERAPY, AND MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING. The MHOTRS PROGRAM IS LOCATED AT ITS MAIN SITE ON 1475 PARK AVE AND THE OPERATING HOURS ARE 8:00AM - 8:00PM, MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY, 8:00AM - 7:00PM, FRIDAY AND 9:30AM - 3:30PM ON SATURDAYS. NORTHSIDE HAS 21 SCHOOL BASED SATELLITES IN ITS CLINIC IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM. THE SCHOOL-BASED SATELLITES PROVIDE DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC SERVICES, INCLUDING CRISIS SUPPORT AND MEDICATION MANAGEMENT, TO CHILDREN REFERRED BY THE SCHOOL, CAREGIVER, OR THE CHILD; OFFER SUPPORT TO SCHOOL PERSONNEL IN ADDRESSING AND MANAGING CHALLENGING BEHAVIORS AND STRENGTHEN SCHOOL, FAMILY, AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS TO IMPROVE OUTCOMES FOR YOUTH WITH SERIOUS MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS. THE SCHOOL SATELLITES OPERATE WITHIN THE SCHOOL'S HOURS OF OPERATION AND ARE CONSISTENT WITH THE NEEDS OF THE CLIENTS SERVED. SCHOOL BASED SATELLITES ARE LOCATED AT: KIPP NYC COLLEGE PREP, KIPP NYC College Prep II, KIPP INFINITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, KIPP INFINITY MIDDLE SCHOOL, KIPP ACADEMY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, KIPP ACADEMY MIDDLE SCHOOL, KIPP JEROME CAMPUS, KIPP MACOMBS CAMPUS, KIPP STAR MIDDLE SCHOOL, EAST HARLEM SCHOLARS ACADEMY, EAST HARLEM SCHOLARS ACADEMY II, EAST HARLEM SCHOLARS ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL, PS/MS 161, HARLEM LINK, CENTRAL PARK EAST HIGH SCHOOL, AND PARK EAST HIGH SCHOOL. NORTHSIDE ALSO OFFERS THE FOLLOWING SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS THAT ARE PART OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH: A) EARLY CHILDHOOD MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDES DIRECT EVIDENCE-BASED THERAPY FOR CHILDREN AGES 0-5 AND FAMILIES, AS WELL AS EXPECTANT MOTHERS AND THEIR PARTNERS, AT OUR MAIN SITE. ADDITIONALLY, THE PROGRAM OFFERS CONSULTATION, TRAINING AND ONGOING SUPPORT TO EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CENTERS THROUGHOUT MANHATTAN. CLINICIANS TRAINED IN CHILD-PARENT PSYCHOTHERAPY, PERINATAL CHILD PARENT PSYCHOTHERAPY, PARENT-CHILD INTERACTION THERAPY, INTERPERSONAL PSYCHOTHERAPY, CIRCLE OF SECURITY, TRIPLE P AND PLAY THERAPY PROVIDE FLEXIBLE AND FAMILY CENTERED TREATMENT THAT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE HOLISTIC NEEDS OF CHILD AND FAMILY. B) NORTHSIDE'S PREVENTIVE SERVICE UNIT IS A PREVENTION PROGRAM USING THE FAMILY CONNECTIONS (FC) EVIDENCE BASED TREATMENT MODEL. THE PROGRAM IS UNDER NYC ADMINISTRATION FOR CHILDREN'S SERVICE (ACS). THE PURPOSE OF PREVENTION PROGRAMS IS TO WORK WITH FAMILIES WHERE THERE IS RISK TO CHILD SAFETY AND THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE CHILDREN CONSEQUENTLY COULD BE REMOVED FROM THE HOME.
