“The metropolitan funeral directors association, inc. (mfda) is a professional trade association, wich represents approximately 200 corporate and independent funeral establishments. In addition to providing traditional association services, mfda also proivdes consumers with information on funeral planning. The mfda offers continuing education seminars for funeral directors, publishes a monthly newsletter, maintains a website, hosts an annual golf outing and assists members with issues relating to the funeral industry. Members of the mfda serve as volunteers during multiple disasters, offering bereavement and administrative support. Members helped government agencies responding to the world trade center disaster and the association serves as an information provider regarding funeral benefits. The association continues to be an advocate of the electronic death registration system that will provide improved customer service for funeral homes and bereaved families currently being implemented by the new york city department of health and mental hygiene.”
