CASH ASSISTANCE AND CASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMWhen COVID-19 hit New York, SEPA Mujer sprang into action to help our members through these difficult times. We were able to give out some cash assistance thanks to Engage New York, Hispanics in Philanthropy - Essential Future Fund, and the Emergency Food and Shelter Program. Through our cash assistance program SEPA Mujer has been able to provide rental and food assistance to our Long Island immigrant community. Case management was provided thanks to the Long Island Community Foundation, Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation and Greater Patchogue Foundation. We received over 200 calls in our AYUDA Latina hotline for COVID-19 related help. Along with these services we adjusted our other programming to ensure the safety of our communities.

IRS990/Desc0The purpose of the Victim Assistance Program is to help Latina immigrant victims of crime. The program addresses gender-based crimes (domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking) hate crime, gang violence, and the financial crime of wage theft. The Victims Assistance Program is funded by the New York State Office of Victims Services. All concrete project services are direct services allowed by the Victims of Crime Act as stated in the Federal Register/Rules and Regulations and the Side-by-Side Comparison of the VOCA Victim Assistance Guidelines and Rules. The program is designed to ensure that Latina immigrants of crime feel understood, supported, and safe with the staff and volunteers of SEPA Mujer at a time in their lives that is exceedingly difficult. Victims are treated with respect and are provided with all information needed to make empowered decisions about how best to claim their rights as crime victims.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Leadership and Development Training/Community Organizing, Education and Outreach-A primary goal of the Charity is to empower Latina immigrant women in all aspects of civic life by providing them with the tools and knowledge necessary to participate in the legislative process. Training addresses topics such as: the legislative process in the United States, the history of immigration policy, human rights, development of leadership skills, womens rights, immigration relief for survivors of domestic violence, the womens movement in the world, language access, etc. There are two levels of Civic Engagement and leadership training. We actively participate in community outreach events, raising awareness on issues that affect the immigrant population, and do presentations about their services and campaigns for agencies, libraries, and other organizations.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0CENSUS 2020SEPA Mujer focused heavily on community outreach so that our communities could be counted on to receive the political representation and resources they deserve. Community outreach and education were the key to overcome the confusion, fear, and ignorance that our community had regarding the census 2020. SEPA Mujer provided guidance and assisted in filling out and submitting the census forms. We organized 2020 census caravans, visited businesses, and spread information on the census. SEPA Mujer planned 137 activities related to the census and engaged 629 people to make sure that they, their families, and their communities were counted.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0Legal Services and Programs-Access to high quality and culturally sensitive legal services is a critical need for adults and children escaping abuse and violence. The Charity strives to provide quality immigration legal services to adult immigrant victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other abuse. Its attorney office offers legal services to those eligible for U Visa, T Visa, VAWA and Gender Asylum, and more, with little to no charge. Additionally, the Charity understands the everyday obstacles immigrant victims of Suffolk County face such as workers rights violations, immigration raids, and lack of language access, the latter of which is especially concerning considering it can be a determining factor in unreported crimes. They fiercely advocate, along with other community advocates, for interpretation and translation services for victims of crime under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc1CASH ASSISTANCE AND CASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMWhen COVID-19 hit New York, SEPA Mujer sprang into action to help our members through these difficult times.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc2GREEN LIGHT-DRIVERS LICENSE CAMPAIGNIn 2020 SEPA Mujer is working and collaborating with other organizations and community members in the implementation, community education and advocacy stages of the Green Light bill passed in June 2019. There are still many barriers undocumented people face when trying to obtain their drivers license. Some of these barriers include language access and discrimination. SEPA Mujer, other advocates and community members are fighting and advocating to ensure the immigrant community can access their drivers licenses, regardless of their primary language or documentation status. REMAP NY: GOTV 2020SEPA Mujer knew that the 2020 elections were important to our community members. We texted and called voters, hosted voter registration Facebook lives, distributed information about voting and provided clarity on the voting process. Our goal was to make sure that our community members voices were heard. We made over 6,000 phone calls and sent over 61,000 Text messages. We organized 29 Community Events. We reached out a total of 131,905 voters.
