Effective, november 2011, the corporation became a not-for profit controlled entity by the fifth avenue committee inc. As a result, fifth avenue committee inc. Took over the administration, managment and payroll functions. Fac is the sole member and can appoint the board.

Generally, major organizational issues are discussed and majority voted upon by the board of directors. At times, some organizational issues are delegated to a sub committee that makes a decision as a sub committee and presents their case to the board of directors for ratification.

The outside auditor prepares a draft form 990 for review by the secretary and the director of finance & it at fifth avenue committee, inc. The outside auditor responds to the comments and corrections. A copy of the 990 is shared with the full nhn board of directors.

The executive director and nhn managers are responsible for approving all vendors and during the selection process a conflict of interest screening is performed. The executive director, fundraising, fiscal, and program staff are responsible for managing all sources of revenue and support and during the processing a conflict of interest screeing is performed. The outside auditor also screens for possible conflicts of interest during the year end financial statement audit.

Home ownership and foreclosure prevention services: foreclosure prevention counseling helps homeowners facing mortgage delinquency or default understand their options and the foreclosure process; develop a budget; assess their finances and determine if they can keep their homes; pursue favorable refinancing opportunities or apply for loan modifications; identify signs of predatory lending and, in cases of fraud or abuse, obtain legal assistance; access property tax reductions for (low-income, disabled or elderly individuals) and rescue funds; and make informed decisions that maximize their financial stability and preserve their assets. Barrio solar reduces barriers to solar for low- and moderate-income homeowners. Along with partners, nhn outreaches to low- and moderate- income nyc residents, and leads information sessions to educate prospective participants about the benefits of solar. Interested homeowners receive an assessment of their property to determine solar feasibility. If a home is determined to be solar ready, we guide the homeowner through installation. The upfront cost is significantly reduced through tax incentives, forgivable loans provided by the program, and/or bulk purchasing of panels from installers.

Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require management to evaluate tax positions taken by nhn and recognize a tax liability if nhn has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by the internal revenue service or other applicable taxing authorities. Management has analyzed the tax positions taken by nhn and has determined that as of june 30, 2024, there were no material uncertain tax positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability or disclosure in the financial statements.
