IRS990/Desc0URI's four Domestic Violence Shelters (Emergency and Transitional) provided a 24-hour, 7 day respite to approximately 1,000 residents (adults and children) who were fleeing intimate partner and family violence. The shelters, operating with one of the highest occupancy rates in New York State, provided comprehensive services that include, safety planning, individual and group counseling, mental health assessment and referrals, housing assistance, child therapy, recreation, and referral to needed ancillary services. All shelters have achieved successful audit outcomes. URI established People and Animals Living Safely(URIPALS),the first and only program that enables victims of domestic violence to co-shelter with their pets, allowing the entire family to live and heal together. in addition, URI's Working Internship Network (WIN), an innovative workforce development program, offered career readiness and financial literacy services to its shelter residents, and its Legal Education and Advocacy Program (LEAP)provided clients with legal advice, advocacy and representation.
