BY MEANS OF POLICY, POSTURE AND PROGRAMS, LTI DIRECTS ITS MAJOR EFFORTS TO THE DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF EDUCATIONAL, EMPLOYMENT, CAREER DEVELOPMENT, MENTORING, JUVENILE AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE, VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND CAPACITY BUILDING INITIATIVES. LTI COLLABORATES WITH NEW YORK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES PROVIDING FIELD PLACEMENTS AND INTERNSHIPS FOR UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENTS IN SOCIAL WORK, EDUCATION, ANTHROPOLOGY, SOCIOLOGY, PSYCHOLOGY AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE.THE INSTITUTE ORGANIZES, COORDINATES AND ADMINISTERS THREE COMMUNITY COALITIONS; NASSAU COMMUNITY OUTREACH CONSORTIUM: WITH FOCUS ON HIV/AIDS AND HEALTH ISSUES, BUILDING FOR SUCCESS PARTNERSHIP, WITH FOCUS ON YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, EDUCATION, TRAINING AND CAREERS, AND COMMUNITIES EMPOWERING YOUTH, WITH FOCUS ON VIOLENCE AND CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION.LTI IS GOVERNED BY A DIVERSE BOARD OF DIRECTORS THAT REFLECTS THE COMMUNITIES IT SERVES AND IS MANAGED BY PROFESSIONALS WHO SPECIALIZE IN THE AREAS OF LTI SERVICE DELIVERY. “Leadership training institute's (lti) mission is to enhance the arts and skills of leadership in primarily minority individuals and groups, to teach through educational seminars and other instructional strategies including supervised volunteer work, and to create, develop and implement social, economic and political programs that facilitate the solution to problems and unmet needs in disadvantaged communities. Lti, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, is dedicated to the activity of educational and social service projects and programs to marginalized individuals, families, and communities.central to the intstitute's philosophy are the concepts of advocacy and service, that is, the general welfare of all and the development and maintenance of leadership qualities and skills. By means of policy, posture and programs, lti directs its major efforts to the design and implementation of educational, employment, career development, mentoring, juvenile and criminal justice, violence prevention and capacity building initiatives. Lti collaborates with new york colleges and universities providing field placements and internships for undergraduate and graduate students in social work, education, anthropology, sociology, psychology and criminal justice.the institute organizes, coordinates and administers three community coalitions: nassau community outreach consortium, with focus on hiv/aids and health issues, building for success partnership, with focus on youth development, education, training and careers, and communities empowering youth, with focus on violence and child abuse prevention.lti is governed by a diverse board of directors that reflects the communities it serves and is managed by professionals who specialize in the areas of lti service delivery.
