Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Variety child learning center (vclc) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides programs and services that meet the individual educational, therapeutic, and social-emotional needs of children with and without disabilities. Programs include early intervention, preschool, universal pre-k, evaluations for supportive services/ therapies, childcare, and family support, ensuring that all aspects of a child's development are addressed from as early as six weeks through eight years of age.

The mission of variety child learning center (vclc) is to: promote the development, education and inclusion into the community of children with or at risk of disabilities; increase the capabilities of families whose children have or are at risk of disabilities and reduce the stresses on those families; initiate improvements in the delivery of services to children and their families; provide training and technical assistance to early childhood personnel; and promote programs, research attitudes, policies and collaborations that improve child development and family life.

The 990 forms will be presented to the audit committee of the board of trustees. The ceo, cfo, controller and independent auditors will attend the meeting to present the 990. Any questions/concerns will be addressed. Subsequent to this committee review, the 990 will be submitted to the entire board for their review prior to the filing date.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The conflict of interest statements should be submitted to the chief executive officer and/or chief financial officer (or, if she or he is the one with the conflict, then to the board chair) who shall bring the matter to the attention of the executive committee. Disclosure involving directors should be made to the board chair (or, if she or he is the one with the conflict, then to the board vice chair) who shall bring these matters to the executive board. The board or executive committee shall determine whether a conflict exists and in the case of an existing conflict, whether the contemplated transaction may be authorized as just, fair, and reasonable to vclc. The decision of the board or executive committee on these matters will rest in their sole discretion, and their concern must be the welfare of vclc and the advancement of its purpose.

The executive committee of the board will obtain comparative salary/benefit information from similar organizations via guidestar and published 990 reports. In addition, the independent auditors will consult with the executive committee and/or entire board of trustees regarding comparable data in the industry and allowable costs as per the new york state education department. The board of directors reviewed compensation during june 2013 board meeting in executive session.

EMPIRICALLY VALIDATED INTERVENTIONS ARE UTILIZED IN ALL CLASSROOMS, SOME USING THE SCIENCE OF APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS. ALL CHILDREN HAVE GYM CLASS, COMPUTER LAB AND MUSIC WEEKLY. VCLC HAS BILINGUAL AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER CLASSES STAFFED WITH BILINGUAL, BICULTURAL STAFF. HOME/SCHOOL COLLABORATION IS AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT OF THE PROGRAM.
