IRS990/Desc0Live Sketch Comedy Shows: Founded in 1997 by Paul Charney and Marc Vogl, The Lobster Theatre Project (aka Killing My Lobster) has been making the Bay Area laugh through live shows, short films, full length plays, and sketch comedy classes. Almost 20 years later, Killing My Lobster is still dedicated to producing high quality, relevant, and fearless sketch comedy that makes people laugh. We are committed to finding the best and most diverse comedic talent available in the Bay Area and bringing those artists together to create original and innovative shows, consistently. The Lobster Theatre Project strives to accurately represent the best of the Bay Area and push the boundaries of what's possible in sketch comedy today. In 2016, under the leadership of Millie Brooks and Allison Page, Killing My Lobster achieved the following: produced ten original productions, held 41 performances, partnered for a third year with 826 Valencia to create and produce a 1-hour show written by kids ages 8-11, and worked with over 80 Bay Area Artists. Killing My Lobster's vision is a world in which San Francisco is known worldwide as a center for comedy, and KML has influenced a generation of funny people whether they are comedians or not. We plan to establish ourselves as a nationally-known comedy institution, putting the Bay Area on the comedy map, the way Chicago is known for Second City, Los Angeles for The Groundlings, and New York City for The Upright Citizens Brigade. San Francisco is ready for a comedic center based in sketch comedy. As the Bay Area, and especially San Francisco, has become an example of widespread sociological change and upheaval, the arts are more important than ever, and harder to sustain. As KML grows, we widen our artistic reach and bring more artists every year into our programs, creating opportunities for growth for those who are interested in expanding their abilities in performance, writing, directing, and teaching comedy. In the last three years, we have established new leadership and a new vision, and we carry our mission of "fast, smart, fearless" through all we do. That can mean everything from examining topics that are complicated, difficult, and close to the surface (society's view of women in 2016's Lifetime: Theatre for Women, current politics in 2016's The Political Show) or challenging ourselves with new or different formats (KML's SF Sketchfest Production, 826 + KML = BFFS, 2016's Game of Nerds). In all, we strive to be the best example of what comedy can be, and great representatives of the Bay Area. We engage the community by teaching workshops to young writers, offering our Diversity in Comedy Fellowships to Bay Area writers and actors, and by opening our Thursday night performances to additional audiences through our $10 Thursday program. By adhering to a consistent schedule, and increasing our run lengths, we are building a community that can grow with us, engage with artists post-show, and with whom we can build lasting relationships. In 2016, under the leadership of Millie Brooks and Allison Page, KML achieved the following: produced ten original productions, held 41 performances, partnered, for a third year with 826 Valencia to create and produce a 1-hour show written by kids ages 8-11. There were 4 performances of "826 + KML = BFFs", Diversified our writing and acting pools and are pushing it even further for next year (57% of our current acting pool is female, 31% of our current acting pool are people of color, 57% of our current writing pool is female, and 34% of our current writing pool are people of color. Women represented 107 of 173 (62%) of our creative positions in 2016, People of color represented 22 of 173 (18%) of our creative positions in 2016, a 5% increase from 2015 and encouraged our creative collaborators (KML's writers, actors, choreographers, etc.) to take on more leadership positions by ushering them into new roles as directors, head writers, and teachers, and established gender

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0KML School of Comedy Classes: The Lobster Theatre Project had a very successful year of classes in 2016. We offered six different writing classes. Each writing class met one time a week for the course of seven weeks, which means we had 42 days of class in 2016. We had 84 students come through the program in 2016, 4 new teachers, 3 new teachers assistance, and 2 Diversity in Comedy Fellowship Recipients. Our education program continued to grow so much, that we started to rent out theatre space for each "Final Read", which is a final presentation on the last class of all the student's work in the course. The Lobster Theatre Project experienced major growth in our class registration in 2016. Every course was at capacity, with two classes having a waitlist of at least two people. The desire to expand was tangible, so we held a one-day education retreat in May 2016 to brainstorm new opportunities for growth. We came out of that retreat with five guiding philosophies when teaching sketch comedy at The Lobster Theatre Project and also developed a Sketch Acting program. Through some strategic scheduling, we managed to double our classes in 2017 and trained six new teachers to begin teaching Writing and Acting. 2017 will be our first year of providing both Acting and Writing classes at KML. Our goal is to keep increasing our class offerings at least 25% every year. We've already started searching for more classroom space in order to keep growing. Our long-term goal is to find another location where we can have consistent classes Monday - Thursday in the Bay Area. From 2015 to 2016, we increased our class opportunities by 50%. We went from offering four classes in 2015 to offering 6 classes in 2016. We also increased our student capacity 46%. In 2015 we had 52 students and in 2016 we had 84.
