The object of the branford rotary club is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: first - the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service, second - high ethical standards in in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each rotarian's occpuation as an opportunity to serve society, third - the application of the ideal of service in each rotarian's personal, business and community life, fourth - the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. Traditionally, the club raises money by holding three (3) annual fundraisers, and then donates all of the net proceeds to various charities in and around branford, ct, throughout the state of ct, and the world. The annual fundraisers are: 1. Branford festival food tent - annually, since 1980, the club prepares and sells food at the branford festival, an annual festival put on by the branford festival corporation (an unrelated entity). Although impossible to accurately quantify the number of hours the club members invest, conservative estimates are around 1,100 hours per year. This event is, traditionally, the club's largest and most profitable fundraiser. Please see separate schedule labeled "part ii, activities and operational information" for a detail of income and expenses. 2. Branford thanksgiving 5k fun run & walk - an annual event that started in november, 2017. The 5k run is a flat 5k event which begins and finishes at walsh intermediate school. The course is flat & fast traveling through branford's scenic route 146 and pine orchard golf course. There is an entrance fee paid by all participants, but the general public is welcome to attend, as spectators, free of charge. The rotarians sell food, soda and a small amount of souvenirs to the attendees. Again, it is difficult to accurately quantify, the approximate number of hours invested by the rotary club members, but it is estimated to approximate 50 hours. Please see the separate schedule labeled "part ii, activities and operational information", for a detail of income and expenses. 3. Branford rotary's outrageous restaurant raffle - a/k/a braffle - this event was created after the covid-19 pandemic outbreak in 2020. It had become evident that a number of low income branford families were experiencing difficulties in providing for food, rent and utilities in the current economic environment. It was further noted that many branford restaurants were also experiencing a prolonged downturn in their customer traffic and revenues due to the pandemic. This event sells 2,500 tickets for the chance to win a grand prize of a package of 100 gift certificates to fifty (50) participating branford area restaurants. A second place prize is a package of 50 gift certificates to these same fifty (50) branford area restaurants. Additional prizes include a 100 gift card to participating local restaurant of your choice. This past year's 2,500 tickets were completely sold out within threee weeks, after being issued this event haas been so embraced by the local community, that more than 1,000 individuals have purchased tickets for this event. This equates to about one in every 12 branford households. Another source of income to the club are dues paid by the membership. Currently at 200 per member per year, the dues are spent on rotary district and rotary international dues and the operations of the club.

THE ROTARIANS SELL FOOD, SODA AND A SMALL AMOUNT OF SOUVENIRS TO THE ATTENDEES.
