Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The museum uses a compensation survey from nema (new england museum association). This is considered in conjunction with education levels, industry experience, and longevity at the museum. The board of trustees of florence griswold museum is responsible for determining and reviewing the compensation of the director and for ensuring that compensation is reasonable. Compensation decisions are presumed reasonable if based on objective, documented, comparable information. The executive committee of florence griswold museum, comprised of disinterested officers, conducts an annual performance evaluation of the director and establishes the director's compensation based on comparability data from non-profit and museum compensation surveys. The executive committee presents its recommendations to the board of trustees, which then deliberates and makes the final decision as part of the annual budgeting process. The decision is noted in the board minutes and memorialized in an annual review letter, which is kept on file in the finance office. The director, who conducts an annual review of salaries and wages, which takes into account department head evaluations, compensation surveys, levels of education, industry experience and longevity at the museum, determines all other employees' compensation. The director initiates salary recommendations to the executive committee, with ultimate approval given by the board of trustees as part the annual budgetary process. Budget approval is noted in the board minutes and individual employees' compensation is memorialized in annual review letters, which are kept on file in the finance office.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization does not make its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements available to the public

PART III, LINE 1A:

Museum collection - in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america (gaap), the museum does not capitalize donated works of art or recognize them as revenues or gains. PART III, LINE 4:

The museum's collection focuses on the art of connecticut highlighted by the hartford steam boiler collection and also includes new england furniture, decorative arts, artifacts of everyday life, a reference library, and the lyme historical society archives.
