Activity 2

Growing matters: provides resources, education and support for partners and community members to create and care for food-production gardens. Every growing matters project is connected with education, whether that's a workshop for neighborhood residents or an elementary school. Growing matters helps more people grow food themselves and increases the supply of local food by growing more, closer to home. The program takes a holistic approach to growing food, working closely with a variety of small and large-scale models, from container gardening to urban farming. We also provide workshops and leadership training, because we believe successful garden projects require both gardening and community organizing skills. Over 65 yard gardens installed, produced more than 6,000 lbs of food at the hoover ymca.

Activity 3

Veggie van: a program that addresses the role of food in our local economy by supporting a sustainable agriculture system for our region. Our goal is to create market opportunities for local farmers, improve distribution channels for locally grown food making it available to all communities, increase consumer access to local, sustainably grown food and educate people about the value of local, sustainably grown food. Our veggie van distributed over 1000 bags of healthy fruits and vegetables filled with products from local farmers. Advocated and provided education to over 1000 community members.
