Mission

Our mission is to advance renewable energy in the midwest by applying technical expertise and building support to expand markets. We focus on educating key decision makers through technical, communications and media work, and public outreach. Cga brings the best of its organizational capacity to capture renewable energy opportunities: visionary thinking and doing, continued growth in technical expertise, strong working relationships with the wind, solar and energy storage industries, an understanding of state-by-state regulatory and policy challenges and opportunities. Cga works to interconnect renewable energy to provide local economic benefits and to reduce carbon emissions.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Technical - wow participated in transmission planning studies, discussions on cost allocation for new transmission lines, development of market rules to integrate wind power into the electric transmission system, and analysis of integrated system operations with higher amounts of renewable energy. During 2011, key technical activities for wow included:- continued support and inclusion for the regional generator outlet study (rgos) results in on-going transmission planning studies at miso. Rgos was a multi-year study focused on the technical requirements necessary to develop transmission portfolios that will fulfill res requirements in the midwest and achieve the lowest cost per-mwh. The study provides a firm technical foundation for ongoing discussions around when, where, and how to build new clean energy transmission for the midwest.- participation in miso committees such as the market subcommittee, reliability subcommittee, interconnection process task force, and the planning advisory committee.- eastern interconnection planning collaborative (eipc) - wow provided technical assistance to the ngo caucus and served on the eipc stakeholder steering committee representing the ngo sector.
Activity 3
Regulatory - wow participated in many state and federal regulatory proceedings to ensure timely and effective implementation of state renewable energy standards and other public policies to advance the deployment of clean energy in the midwest. Specifically, wow:- continued to support at miso and the federal energy regulatory commission (ferc) broad cost allocation for new transmission infrastructure and particularly the miso mvp portfolio.- crafted and filed comments in several state and federal (ferc) dockets, including utility integrated resource plans, res implementation dockets, and miso tariff and compliance filings.
