“Infinite family established and runs 3 launchpad computer labs in alexandra, soweto and khayelitsha townships. Our launchpads are essentially the first and only opportunity local teens have to access computers and the internet. In 2020, 144 students learned a range of new education, technology, career preparation, communication and life skills, and used infinite family's computers and internet access weekly to accomplish research and homework. Their work in our launchpads was significantly curtailed during much of the year because of covid-19 pandemic lockdowns. As a result, infinite family temporarily shifted our services on a temporary basis in two ways. In less than a week after the first lockdown, we adapted our skills development program to send twice daily messages via sms that included information, inspiration and activities to strengthen our students' mental, physical, and emotional skills. In addition, we raised funds and organized distribution of two months of food parcels to 139 families, providing an estimated total of 63,000 meals. As a result of these programs, in close cooperation with our local ngo and corporate partners, none of our mentees reported contracting covid-19 during 2020. We restarted our mentorship program in 2021, including measuring our students' performance via their monthly performance reports. Mentorships average 2.5 years with many lasting up to a decade. Volunteer video mentors are located in 18 countries worldwide.”
