Activity 2

Climate & energy: the global warming solutions act, passed in 2008, means that connecticut is committed to concrete carbon reductions in a specific time frame. In 2013, cfe worked to educate the public and advocate for policies to reduce emissions and promote energy efficiency. We worked with state leaders to increase energy efficiency funding and defended renewable portfolio standards against dilution. We also laid the groundwork to establish a stamford 2030 district made up of businesses committed to energy, water and transportation goals.

Activity 3

Western long island sound: sewage and polluted runoff too often close beaches in the western sound, and harm fish and wildlife by sucking life-giving oxygen out of the water. In 2013, cfe worked to ensure that sewage treatment plants discharging into the western sound met their nitrogen reduction goals; launched a volunteer water-quality monitoring program to track down and eliminate sewage leaks into the sound; and initiated a youth education program.
