Endowment assets include those assets of donor-restricted funds that the Hospital must hold in perpetuity or for a donor-specific period(s). Under this policy, the endowment assets are invested in a manner that is intended to produce a real return, net of inflation and investment management costs, of at least 4% over the long term. Actual returns in any given year may vary from this amount. The Hospital's endowment consists of hundreds of individual funds established for a variety of purposes including but not limited to patient care, research and capital needs.
