Activity 2

Bright beginningsa solid educational foundation is a crucial aspect of child development. Family centers' early care and education preschools provide children with the skills they need to ensure future success. Along with our school based health centers and parental support programs, family centers ensures that families have everything they need to give children the bright beginnings they deserve. * through our head start preschools, school readiness classrooms and early care and education program, 233 children received a quality preschool education in fy2013. At the head start preschool, 89% of kindergarten bound children met or exceeded social-emotional, cognitive, language and motor skills benchmarks by the end of the 2012-2013 school year.* the school based health centers provided primary health, mental health and dental services to 1362 stamford public schools students. A total of 5357 nurse practitioner, social work and dental visits took place. An additonal 7934 students, parents and faculty participated in sbhc's health and wellness presentations.

Activity 3

Fostering independencebalancing work, home housing issues is a particular struggle for disadvantaged and underserved populations. Through vocational and career training, housing resources, counseling and self-sufficiency programs, family centers help residents of fairfield county realize their dreams of living more independent lives. * of the 622 clients receiving vocational support through the rite program, 88% increased their level of employment, while 83% of rite's 222 unemployed clients found work. A random sampling of 50 unemployed stamford residents receiving rite services resulted in a dramatic reduction in government assistance to these participants. * the housing resource program has helped to keep 80 adults living with prolonged mental illness from becoming homeless-saving $1.7m in public spending.
