Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART XI, LINE 9:

Net change in beneficial interest in trust -138,323.

Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 1A:

Collection items consist of artifacts of historical significance and art objects that are held for educational, research, and curatorial purposes. Each of the items is cataloged, preserved, and cared for, and activities verifying their existence and assessing their condition are performed continuously. Collection items acquired either through purchase or donation are not capitalized. Purchases of collection items are recorded as decreases in unrestricted net assets if purchased with unrestricted assets and as decreases in temporarily restricted or permanently restricted net assets if purchased with donor-restricted assets. Contributions of collection items are not recognized in the statement of activities. Proceeds from deaccessions or insurance recoveries are reflected on the statement of activities based on the absence or existence and nature of donor-imposed restrictions. Collection items are protected, kept unencumbered, cared for, and preserved. If collection items are sold, the proceeds from the sale are used solely for the advancement of blithewold's collections care.

PART III, LINE 4:

Collection items consist of artifacts of historical significance, such as letters, journals, diaries and photographs, as well as objects of art and decorative arts, utilitarian and household items, personal possessions, costumes and accessories. Collections are preserved and displayed in an authentic setting through controlled public access, publications and educational programs. The collections support the integrity of blitheold, inc., which extends to all aspects of the property, from furnishings and artifacts to horticulture.

PART V, LINE 4:

The intended use of the organization's endowment funds is to fund operations and emergency capital needs when required.

Consequently, the accompanying financial statements do not reflect any provision for income taxes. The organization believes it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken, and as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that are material to the financial statements.
