This partnership is made up of the newport county chamber of commerce, the southeastern new england defense industry alliance (senedia), the rhode island stem center at ric, and the middletown economic development advisory council. This group has commissioned a study of the skills gaps in the current workforce of the defense industry and aims to establish an overall policy for workforce development initiatives relevant to the defense community. This includes technical writing workshops, the establishment of internship programs, and short, mid- and long-term education plans. Additionally, the grant is assisting with senedia's organizational development, membership outreach, and infrastructure development to create a sustainable organization that will help to increase the impact of the defense industry in rhode island, positively impact the state's economy, and also to increase job opportunities for rhode islanders.
