Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To provide educational and support programs to those born with a genetic disorder called aniridia syndrome, which due to underdeveloped eye structures renders the child to live life with low vision or blindness and other medical conditions. The medical conferences provides all aspects: education, critical support and opportunities to be seen by expert ophthalmologists who volunteer their time. It also gives physicians and researchers quality time to discuss and brain storm in efforts to work together. Aniridia foundation international (afi) also funds aniridia research and provides important data to researchers in hopes that advancing research will improve their quality of life until there is a cure. Aniridia syndrome is comprised of conditions which can cause further loss of vision and medical conditions anytime from birth onward. Those with this genetic disorder struggle with difficult to control glaucoma, childhood cataracts, corneal scarring, retinal detachments or aniridia fibrosi

Activity 2
American academy of ophthalmology medical conference: aniridia foundation international exhibits at this conference to provide awareness of the conditions, treatments and research developments of aniridia and other low vision and blind conditions by distributing educational brochures and providing physicians with a network of support for themselves and their patients.
Activity 3
Research: aniridia foundation international is promoting research of aniridia and the associated conditions of patients born with aniridia. The programs goal is to develop a gene bank that will help with research and education of the medical community through photographs and dna and tissue samples.

THE PHYSICIANS AND RESERACHERS ALSO MEET WITH THEIR COLLEAGUES FOR MEETINGS TO COLLABORATE ON NEW TREATMENTS, FINDINGS, AND PLANS ON HOW TO ADVANCE TOWARDS A CURE TO BETTER THE LIVES OF THOSE WITH THIS GENETIC BIRTH DEFECT. ALSO, THE CONFERENCE PROVIDES IMPORTANT SUPPORT OPPORTUNITIES FOR THOSE AFFECTED TO MEET AND SHARE WITH OTHERS WHO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE LIVING WITH DAILY. NEW PARENTS SEEK SUPPORT FOR THE UNKOWN AND FIND COMFORT IN SEEING THOSE LIVING THEIR LIVES AS ADULTS. CONFERENCES SUCH AS THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF OPTHALMOLOGY, AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS, AND THE NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION ARE EXHIBITED AT TO BRING AWARENESS OF ANIRIDIA AND AFI.
