Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The foundation operates as a publicly supported tax-exempt organization pursuant to section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and, accordingly, is exempt from federal income taxes. The foundation is also exempt from massachusetts income tax under massachusetts general law chapter 180. In addition, the foundation qualifies for the charitable contribution deduction under section 170(b)(1)(a) of the internal revenue code and has been classified as an organization other than a private foundation under section 509(a)(1). The foundation is subject to the provisions of financial accounting standards board's accounting standards codification ("asc") topic 740, income taxes, as it relates to accounting and reporting for uncertainty in income taxes. Because of the foundation's general tax-exempt status, management believes asc topic 740 has not had, and is not anticipated to have, a material impact on the foundation's financial statements.

PART XI, LINE 2D - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:

Special event expenses included in financial statement functional 535.

PART XII, LINE 2D - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:

Special event expenses included in financial statement functional 535.

PART XII, LINE 4B - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:

IRS990ScheduleA/FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt0THE ORGANIZATION MEETS THE FACTS AND CIRCUMSTANCES TEST AS FOLLOWS:THE PUBLIC SUPPORT PERCENTAGE FOR THE CURRENT AND PRIOR YEAR (2024 & 2023) IS WELL ABOVE 10%, AT 31.04% AND 31.04%, RESPECTIVELY. THE ORGANIZATION HAD PERCENTAGES OF 25.5%, 28.97%, 28.31%, & 30.77% IN 2022, 2021, 2020, & 2019 RESPECTIVELY, AND EXCEEDED THE 33 1/3% PUBLIC SUPPORT TEST IN 2018 WITH 37.37%.FUNDRAISING FOR THE ORGANIZATION IS CARRIED OUT PRIMARILY BY THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, WHO LEVERAGES THE FOUNDER'S CONNECTIONS WITH HIGH NET WORTH INDIVIDUALS OR PEOPLE WITH INFLUENCE AT CORPORATIONS OR FOUNDATIONS. THE FOUNDER IS A CELEBRITY WHO HAS CONTACT WITH THESE POTENTIAL DONORS.THE ORGANIZATION RECEIVED CONTRIBUTIONS FROM OVER 65 DONORS IN 2024, AND APPROXIMATELY 48 DONORS IN 2023, 31 DONORS IN 2022, AND 25 DONORS IN 2021. THE NUMBER OF DONORS IN 2021 WAS FEWER THAN NORMAL DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. HOWEVER, TWO LARGE DONORS EACH YEAR REPRESENTS A MAJOR PORTION OF THE EXCESS CONTRIBUTIONS OVER 2% OF THE AMOUNT ON LINE 11F OF SCHEDULE A PART II. ONE OF THESE DONORS IS A LARGE BANK THAT HOLDS AN EVENT EACH YEAR WHERE THEIR BROKERS VOLUNTEER TO DONATE THE COMMISSIONS RECEIVED ON THAT DAY TO THE ORGANIZATION. THE BANK HANDLES THE CALCULATION AND REMITS THE DONATION TO THE ORGANIZATION, BUT IN REALITY, THIS DONATION IS REALLY MADE BY MANY INDIVIDUALS. IF THIS ONE DONATION WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE EXCESS CONTRIBUTIONS CALCULATION, THE ORGANIZATION WOULD LIKELY HAVE A PUBLIC SUPPORT PERCENTAGE IN EXCESS OF 33 1/3%. THE ORGANIZATION'S BOARD IS COMPOSED OF INDIVIDUALS WITH A VARIETY OF BACKGROUNDS INCLUDING A CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT, AN ATTORNEY AND OTHERS WHO WORK WITH OR SERVE ON THE BOARDS OF CHILDREN'S CHARITIES WHICH PROVIDES A VARIETY OF EXPERIENCE IN GUIDING THE ORGANIZATION IN ACHIEVING ITS MISSION.THE ORGANIZATION'S PRIMARY EXPENSE IS FROM GRANTS TO CHARITIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY THAT ALIGN WITH THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION TO ASSIST YOUTH. THE ORGANIZATION'S EMPLOYEES HAVE NOT RECEIVED INCREASES IN THEIR SALARIES IN MANY YEARS AND OTHER EXPENSES ARE KEPT TO A MINIMUM. CERTAIN SERVICES ARE RECEIVED IN-KIND THEREBY ALLOWING THE ORGANIZATION TO MAXIMIZE THE AMOUNT OF GRANTS IT MAKES. THE ORGANIZATION MAKES GRANTS TO NUMEROUS PUBLIC CHARITIES EACH YEAR. THE AMOUNT AND NUMBER OF CHARITIES CAN VARY FROM YEAR TO YEAR DEPENDING ON THE TIMING OF GRANT APPROVAL BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS.
