Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Leadership Development Programs: Provided workshops, coaching, literature, videos, and online information on the theory and practice of sociocracy, an egalitarian approach to governance. Four cycles of 9-week training for cohorts of 14-18 each. In person workshops ranging from 90 minutes to three days. One online international conference attended by more than 200. One advanced year-long training program with 40 participants. Distributed approximately 750 copies of the book Many Voices One Song: Shared Power with Sociocracy. A series of online webinars and short classes attended by variying numbers - between 6 and 80. Videos posted publicly and seen by thousands.$0$158,298
Cambridge Bethlehem People to People Project: Prior to COVID, the Cambridge Bethlehem People to People Project organized and/or co-sponsored a series of events and planned a number of others that had to be postponed. We co-sponsored a first of its kind intersectional program on water involving Palestinians and Native Americans and People of Color. Entitled Indigenous Perspectives on Climate, the program was hosted by the North American Indian Community of Boston. We co-sponsored with Friends of Al-Rowwad an evening with Dr. Abusrour, the founder of the Al-Rowwad Cultural Center in the Aida Camp in Bethlehem. The Center has a long history of connection with CBPPP. In addition to the evening, CBPPP hosted a dinner with Dr. Abusrour for members of our committee. At our February meeting, we reviewed our many accomplishments over the decades and updated our website to reflect them. After COVID. We were key organizers for 1for3's annual Walk for Water raising funds and consciousness about the restrictions on water in the West Bank. A virtual event we provided testimonies, publicized the event and created a team of "walkers." We hosted a testimonial recognition evening for psychologist/art expressive therapist Khitam Edelbi on the occasion of her PHD graduation and raised funds to support her work with children and in Bedouin Villages. We sadly joined a video memorial for Louis Kampf, a long-time Palestinian-rights activist and founding member of CBPPP. Cambridge Bethlehem People to People project continues to maintain connection with our various partners in Bethlehem. The Committee is maintaining its core group which is adjusting to meeting via zoom.$25,000$200
International Understanding Programs: Support a sister city exchange and education program between Cambridge MA and San Jose Las Flores (SJLF) in El Salvador. The Cambridge El Salvador Sister City committee was well underway for an active and impactful year when COVID interrupted many plans. Before COVID: We sent a delegate to El Salvador in August for a popular education week (the 3rd summer we have done this) We participated in the National Sister City meeting in October reviewing our programs and setting goals for 2020. We co-sponsored with the Martin Baro Fund an evening commemorating the 30th anniversary of the murder of the 6 Jesuits, their housekeeper and her daughter at the UCA with Senator Jim McGovern and author Carolyn Forché We organized and attended a very successful meeting with Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley's aide Ronald Claude making a strong connection for the future. We hosted a presentation from Salvadoran entrepreneur/activist Omar Ortiz who has been involved in economic/cooperative development NGOs to program evaluation with Oxfam globally and a local project, Nauak Able Hands - involves connecting mostly Salvadoran and Central American workers with people in Arlington and greater Boston . The biggest effort was outreach and organizing for an April delegation to El Salvador the first in 4 years). With many potential delegates, we ended up confirming an amazing group with 3 young Salvadoran women activists, 2 CRLS high school students, a grandmother of one of the students, 3 teachers, 2 sister city founders and a member of the city council. The group met several times, designed an itinerary, had tickets and then cancelled with COVID. We have, however, stayed together hoping for a February 2021 trip and their involvement has expanded the committee. Since COVID, we have held several virtual meetings with leaders in Las Flores and raised some funds for funeral costs which came with COVID. Their situation is very difficult with the cancellation of public transportation and the government's reduced attention to organized communities. Our committee has stayed in touch.$0$2,798
International Sociocracy Certification Board: Established a Board consisting of representatives of three participating agencies including this one, to certify international sociocracy consultants. Approved three agencies to be certifying agencies and certified four consultants. Created a website to publicly identify the certifying agencies and certified consultants.$0$208
Leadership Development Programs: Provided workshops, coaching, literature, videos, and online information in the skills and consciousness of compassionate communication (nonviolent communication). Conducted one in-person workshop for 20 members of a cohousing community. This year most of the programmatic activity was done in the context of teaching about egalitarian governance (another project of the nonprofit).$0$0
