Mission

Pathways for children nurtures children and supports families impacted by economic and social inequity through programs that educate, enrich, empower and motivate.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Day care programs provide full time and after school day care for children in the cape ann region of massachusetts. Pathways provides excellence in early care and education to 400 children a day through a variety of comprehensive programs. Children aged birth to thirteen are served in programs designed to meet their individual needs. Services are provided year round for up to 10 hours a day thus supporting working families. Pathways' community and family outreach efforts have expanded our client base as well as our community impact. Pathways sets high standards for its programs and is proud of its achievements. Pathways has earned a reputation as being consistently ahead of the field in regards to best practice and convening collaborations. In working toward our goal that all children enter school eager and ready to learn and achieve literacy proficiency by third grade, we are embarking on a closer partnership with the gloucester and ipswich public schools that will be articulated through a memoranda of understanding. This initiative will assure that our mutual approaches are aligned to achieve the same outcomes for children and enable us to begin the process of tracking those outcomes.pathways also provides specialized services to priority populations including: children who have been abused or neglected; families experiencing the challenge of addictions, family violence, or poverty; adolescent parents; and individuals with disabilities. Through collaboration with local public schools, mental health agencies, and early intervention programs, among others, supports are provided that can enable families to overcome barriers that have impeded their success. Our staff of licensed social workers, provide on-going support services both in the classroom milieu and elsewhere to at-risk families. A variety of support groups and workshops are offered to parents, including some conducted in spanish and portuguese, languages that reflect those spoken on cape ann.offering a variety of opportunities for parents to be engaged in their child's learning experience, is another area that pathways' staff focus on. Comprehensive services coupled with our focus on the child and his or her family, are hallmarks of pathways programs' and sets us apart from other organizations. Home visits by teachers and social workers help families set goals for themselves and their children. Transportation can be provided to and from programming if needed. Two nutritious meals and a snack are served each day without additional fees enabling us to further promote our efforts to reduce the incidence of childhood obesity. Collaboration with the local pediatricians and the dental clinic ensures that children's physical and oral health are maintained. Referrals for other health services and supports such as housing and adult education are offered in languages that are spoken in the community. Finally, community collaborations enable us to provide additional enrichment opportunities for our children and families. Rockport music provides on-site classical music performances introducing our children to orchestral music and instruments. Cape ann museum provides field trips and teacher training regarding local arts and history. The trustees of reservations provides field trips to local conservation areas and the crane estate recreational area. The open door food pantry provides a weekly free farmers market on site, offering fresh produce and education regarding preparation. And funding from the local arts council supports annual, diverse cultural events. Pathways for children is proud of its reputation for excellence earned over the past four decades and looks forward to a continuing to serve as a vital link in cape ann's network of community services long into the future.
