Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Exploration school's mission is primarily to operate summer educational programs with diverse student bodies that encourage intellectual inquiry, the joy of learning, responsible decision-making and investigation and appreciation of the world and people and ideas. The organization also offers explo elevate, a program whose mission is to assist k-12 schools in innovating and building powerful learning environments that will help their students thrive now and in the future. In support of this mission, explo elevate provides schools with research, teacher and school leader professional development, conferences, and advisory services.

Exploration School's mission is primarily to run summer educational programs with diverse student bodies that encourage intellectual inquiry, the joy of learning, responsible decision-making, and investigation and appreciation of the world of people and ideas. The School provides professional development services to teachers and promotes teaching as a career path for talented college and graduate students.

Financial Statement Notes

Part V, Line 4:

“The intended uses of the organization's endowment funds are for scholarships.”

Part X, Line 2:

“In accordance with Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, the School is exempt from federal and state income taxes and, accordingly, the financial statements do not reflect a provision for income taxes. These determinations have been reviewed according to guidance in a Financial Accounting Standards Board pronouncement related to accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. In determining the recognition of uncertain tax positions, the School applies a more-likely-than-not recognition threshold and determines the measurement of uncertain tax positions considering the amounts and probabilities of the outcomes that could be realized upon ultimate settlement with taxing authorities. As of August 31, 2018, the School has no uncertain tax positions that qualify for either recognition or disclosure in the financial statements.”
