Activity 2

Advocacy/women's education - some of the most important services we offer our guests are through our advocacy program where advocates work one-on-one with guests to help them find permanent solutions to the challenges they face. Advocates see approximately 10,000 guests annually for assistance with housing, health and wellness care, educational and employment opportunities, clothing, legal advice, transportation, and emergency funds for eviction prevention and prescriptions. The women's education program at rosie's place presently consists of three core areas: english as a second language (esl) classes, literacy tutoring and a ged (high school equivalency test) preparation program. All classes offered by the women's education program are free of charge. The center, which occupies a four-story row house adjacent to the main rosie's place facility, provides ample space for classrooms, group work, individual tutoring, computer labs, conversation classes, and a library of books and classroom materials. The new building can accommodate 80 students at a time, bringing total possible enrollment to 240 women per term. More than 130 women attend ged, literacy, esl and citizenship classes through our women's education program.

Activity 3

Permanent housing - the rosie's place permanent housing program provides supportive, long-term housing to 12 women in two locations. For many of our tenants who have experienced long-term homelessness due to mental or physical illness, these houses become a permanent home. Others live in our homes only until they find an independent living situation.
