IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0FAMILY SUPPORTWE PROVIDE A BROAD ARRAY OF SUPPORTS TO FAMILIES THAT INCLUDE ONE OR MORE INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES, DESIGNED TO HELP FAMILIES SUCCEED AS ACTIVE, CONTRIBUTING COMMUNITY MEMBERS. THESE INCLUDE RECREATION, CHILD CARE, SHORT TERM EMERGENCY NEEDS, SPECIALIZED DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT, SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES, NUTRITION SUPPORT, THERAPEUTIC SERVICES AND TRAINING IN SELF-ADVOCACY. WE ENSURE THAT FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS HAVE THE RESOURCES AND SUPPORT REQUIRED TO ENJOY HEALTHY, PURPOSEFUL AND SELF-DIRECTED LIVES. OUR KIDS' CLUB, ESTABLISHED IN JANUARY 2015, PROVIDES CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS, AGES 7 TO 16, AFTERSCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES TO DEVELOP SOCIAL SKILLS, BUILD SELF-ESTEEM AND ESTABLISH POSITIVE FRIENDSHIPS. AT THE SAME TIME, WE PROVIDE RESPITE FOR PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS, ALLOWING THEM TO WORK, TEND TO THE NEEDS OF THEIR OTHER CHILDREN, OR TO OBTAIN MUCH-NEEDED REST. AMONG OUR OFFERINGS ARE A COMPUTER LAB, MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AND INSTRUCTION, A KITCHEN LEARNING ENVIRONMENT, AND A SENSORY ROOM TO MEET THE NEEDS OF CHILDREN WITH AUTISM.THRIVE'S AFTER SCHOOL COMMUNITY (TASC) PROGRAM FOR YOUNG ADULTS (AGES 17-25) LIVING WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL CHALLENGES AIMS TO KEEP PARTICIPANTS CONNECTED TO THEIR PEERS AND TO THE COMMUNITY DURING A TIME OF DAY WHEN THEY WOULD OTHERWISE BE SOCIALLY ISOLATED. LOCATED AT ALGONQUIN REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL IN NORTHBOROUGH, THE TASC PROGRAM PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARTICIPANTS TO DEVELOP SOCIAL SKILLS, MAKE FRIENDS AND SIMPLY HAVE FUN. AT THE SAME TIME, THEIR PARENTS OR CAREGIVERS RECEIVE RESPITE, ALLOWING THEM TO WORK, DO ERRANDS, ATTEND TO THE NEEDS OF THEIR OTHER CHILDREN, OR SIMPLY GET SOME MUCH-NEEDED REST. THE TASC PROGRAM CURRENTLY RUNS THREE DAYS/WEEK DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR FROM 2:00 PM TO 5:00 PM. WE PROVIDE A DYNAMIC RANGE OF SOCIAL AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES AND INTEGRATION OPPORTUNITIES DRIVEN BY THE INTERESTS OF THE PARTICIPANTS, AND TRANSPORTATION IS PROVIDED IN ORDER TO FACILITATE AT LEAST ONE COMMUNITY OUTING EACH WEEK.THRIVE'S LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE AND DEVELOPMENT (LEAD) INITIATIVE IS A GROUND-BREAKING PROGRAM THAT PREPARES AND EMPOWERS YOUTH WHO WANT TO LEARN WHAT IT TAKES TO BECOME A LEADER AND CHANGE THE WORLD. IN DEVELOPING THIS PROGRAM WE RESEARCHED EXISTING YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM MODELS AND ARE UTILIZING BEST PRACTICES FROM THAT RESEARCH IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT OUR OWN UNIQUE PROGRAM. THIS INITIATIVE IS AIMED AT EMPOWERING THE YOUTH LEADERS TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL, AND IS AN EXTENSION OF OUR ORGANIZATION'S ONGOING COMMITMENT TO FOCUS ON INDIVIDUALS' ABILITIES AND GIVE THEM OPPORTUNITIES TO SHINE. THE PROGRAM OFFERS WEEKLY GROUP MEETINGS WITH A VARIETY OF MENTORS FROM THE COMMUNITY WHERE PARTICIPANTS LEARN ABOUT WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A LEADER AND HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO OBSERVE LEADERS IN ACTION. THE CULMINATION OF THEIR WORK IS A COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT WHERE THE YOUTH DEMONSTRATE THEIR NEWLY LEARNED SKILLS. WE LAUNCHED THIS INITIATIVE AS A DEMONSTRATION PROJECT IN LATE JANUARY 2017, AND FIVE YOUTH LEADERS GRADUATED FROM THE PROGRAM'S FIRST SESSION ON JUNE 29, AFTER PUTTING THE SKILLS THAT THEY LEARNED INTO ACTION AND SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THEIR COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT AT THE BEAUMONT REHABILITATION AND SKILLED NURSING CENTER IN NORTHBOROUGH.
