Activity 2

Social and recreationthe social and recreation program at gmpi encompasses three major areas. First, it has proven to be beneficial by increasing friendships and relationships between an individual and his/her community through recreational activities. The individuals are notified of community based activities and services in their area such as festivals, sporting events and programs. Next, recreation creates connections between the individual and supported activities. With as many as twenty planned activities per month, such as dances and dinners, activities are provided with added support services. Finally, gmpi offers vacations, day trips, professional sporting events, arts & crafts and educational trips. Training for qualifying for participation for the special olympics of massachusetts is another activity that we promote and supervise.recreation means something different to everyone. Keeping this in mind, we start with the individual's preferences and provide support for each person to be able to do the type of activity they choose, with an appropriate level of assistance. Clients of gmpi play golf, softball and bowl, attend concerts, take art lessons, dance lessons, and go on fishing trips and more. They attend sporting events, go on day trips and have dinner nights planned. The "uniqueness" we have at gmpi, is that we provide transportation for all of the social and recreational activities.today, the social and recreation department continues to provide the necessary, safe and reliable growth opportunities to our client base. This program continues to provide the services necessary for building self esteem in our clients and, most importantly, to support community integration.

Activity 3

Family supportthe primary goal of family support is to provide a wide array of options to families of people with disabilities that enable them to stay together and to be welcomed, contributing members in their home communities. The family support service department promotes the development and growth of relationships with natural support networks within the community. Families are experts regarding someone's strengths and needs and are in the best position to know what will help them provide for a family member. Family support strives to achieve the goal of helping families stay together through funding supports in the following areas: respite,recreation,child care,short term emergency needs,specialized diagnosis, evaluation andtreatment,specialized equipment and supplies,specialized nutrition,therapeutic services,transportation,home modifications, andvehicle modificationsgreater marlboro programs, inc., supports several individuals who live independently in homes in the greater marlborough area. We strive to ensure that their home is safe and provides a comfortable environment. We make sure that clients have the resources they need to maintain their health, friendship, and social activities.
