Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The organization has the board review the 990 before submission.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The organization currently has conflict of interest and whistle blower policies that have been ratified by the board of directors. Monitoring, compliance and, if applicable enforcement, are evaluated once a year preceding the annual meeting. Directors also resign the agreement each year preceding the annual meeting.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

In april of each year, the executive director sends a blank performance evaluation form to the executive committee. Each member fills it out and sends it back to the board president. Executive director sends his completed review form to the board president. Board president asks for feedback from staff members. Board president averages scores and prepares a report. Executive committee meeting to discuss executive director's performance and set bonus percentage for the year. If needed, a follow-up meeting is scheduled for early may. After the executive committee meeting the president will meet with the executive director to present feedback. Based on performance, the executive committee determines executive compensation and makes a recommendation to the board. A majority board vote approves it as part of the annual budget.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Annual reports and financial statements are posted on our organization's website for the public to review. Governing documents, conflict of interest and other policies are made available at interfaith's offices in quincy upon appointment.

FORM 990, PART I, LINE 1, DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION MISSION:

Interfaith social services provides south shore residents with the resources necessary to support a healthy and fulfilling life. Our team of clinicians, staff and volunteers deliver programs focused on alleviating hunger, providing mental health counseling, preventing homelessness, and bringing joy to children. Founded in 1947 as a multi-service center for children and families in need, interfaith social services is a nonreligious organization. Interfaith operates one of the largest supportive food programs in greater boston distributing food, basic hygiene supplies, pet food and more to the community. Last year their food pantry distributed 1,000,000+ meals to hunger residents. Half of the food we distribute comes from food salvage efforts with local supermarkets, 500,000+ pounds is rescued each year. Interfaith's mental health counseling center is a safety net ensuring that community members can access therapy and addiction recovery services. Each year interfaith's homelessness prevention program spares hundreds of individuals from the tragedy of becoming homeless. Throughout our programs interfaith's staff and volunteers strive to focus on ways that they can bring joy to local families and children in need. Each year they distribute holiday gifts, halloween costumes, bunny baskets and more to the hundreds of children served by their food pantry. In addition to an annual 5k and gala - one of the organization's most significant fundraisers is the bureau drawer thrift shop. Operated almost entirely by volunteers, all inventory is donated by caring community members. All funds raised through the shop support interfaith's charitable programs.

Financial Statement Notes

Generally, the agency's information/tax returns remain open for possible federal income tax examination for three years after the filing date. While no income tax returns are currently being examined by the internal revenue service, fiscal years since 2021 remain open.
