Mission and Program Overview

Mission

East end house is a not-for-profit, multi-service community center and social service agency with an on-going commitment to a diverse population, providing programs and services to strengthen family and community. East end house is the center of community life, a safe haven welcoming, linking, and collaborating with individuals of all ages, their families, businesses, and community institutions to create innovative programs in pursuit of excellence on a sound fiscal basis.

Major Activities

Activity 2
The school age program serves 52 children each day who are in kindergarten through fifth grade at east end house and another 26 children using space at the kennedy-longfellow school. The program is open from 2pm-6pm during the school year and from 7:30am-5:30pm during summer months and school vacation weeks. The school age program is nationally accredited by the council on accreditation (coa). The program provides academic enrichment, sports, art, and stem learning. Generating and evaluating new adventures in science after school (genasas) offers a variety of interactive classes, field trips, and guest speakers designed to get youth excited about science, technology, engineering, and math (stem) programming. The program focus is on building academic and social skills.
Activity 3
The middle school program serves youth in 6th-8th grade at the putnam avenue upper school throughout the school year from the hours of 2pm-6pm and operates from 7:30am-5:30pm during school vacation weeks and for an 8 week summer program. It is nationally accredited by the council on accreditation (coa). The program offers academic enrichment activities, sports, art, engaging stem programming through the genasas initiative, and service learning opportunities. Genasas is a major component of the middle school curriculum. It includes interactive classes, field trips, and guest speakers from the field. Curriculum is evaluated internally by staff and externally by program in education, afterschool, and resiliency (pear), an affiliate of harvard university and mclean hospital. The program is housed at the putnam avenue upper school and staffed by east end house group leaders as well as teachers from the school. The program is free of charge to all youth. There is also a mentoring program embedded in the middle school program to provide added support for youth most at-risk for adverse outcomes.
