4c -education the organization presented three exhibitions in 2023. The organization presented an exhibition of historic photographs in lubec, and two major exhibitions at the museum building which set attendance records. "peter powning: a retrospective" was borrowed from the beaverbrook art gallery in fredericton, new brunswick, canada, and featured 23 career- defining sculptures. "wabanaki presence" featured a selection of wabanaki works from our collections, plus two items from the passamaquoddy cultural heritage museum. Foster new work in 2023, the organization's studioworks artist-in-residence program hosted 13 artists, including the first alumni of the program to return for a second residency. The artists came from new zealand, england, and states including california, new york, and michigan. Their projects that engaged community members included sculpture, night photography, printmaking, drawing, environmental awareness through art. Their projects including hosting school group visits and with volunteering with community groups, such as a local birding organization. Partnerships in 2023, the organization continued partnerships with area organizations, including the downeast rainbow alliance, eastport artwalk, eastport senior center, area schools and regional organizations.in collaboration with the passamaquoddy cultural heritage museum, the sipayik museum and the passamaquoddy tribal historic preservation office we sponsored a concert and workshop by acclaimed wolastoquiyik nation/maliseet singer, jeremy dutcher, winner of the 2018 polaris music prize, canada's top music award. The concert was held at our north church building to a capacity crowd and the workshop was held at the tribal office building in sipayik. We also hosted a lecture at our seaman's church building by maine state historian, earle shettleworth, jr., on area architecture. The lecture spurred shettleworth's interest to subsequently write an essay on architect, daniel low, who designed several public buildings and residences in eastport in the early 19th century.
