CREATING SPECIALLY TAILORED PROGRAMMING FOR EACH COMMUNITY, HEALING ARTS PROVIDES A CONSISTENT AND RELIABLE SOURCE OF JOY AND INSPIRATION FOR PATIENTS AND CAREGIVERS IN THREE PRINCIPAL FORMATS: 1) BEDSIDE PERFORMANCE FOR NON-MOBILE PATIENTS TO ACCESS CREATIVE ARTS THROUGH A PERSONALIZED APPROACH WITHIN THEIR OWN ROOM, 2) COLLABORATIVE CONCERTS IN THE PUBLIC SPACES OF THESE BUILDINGS, TO ENHANCE THE PATIENT EXPERIENCE THROUGH INTEGRATION OF THE ARTS INTO THE LARGER HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT, WITH PARTICIPATION HIGHLY ENCOURAGED BY PLANNING SINGALONGS AND INTERACTIVE PROGRAMS, AND 3) CREATIVE WORKSHOPS ENGAGING PARTICIPANTS IN THE CREATION OF A COLLABORATIVE WORK OF ART LED BY ARTISTS WHOSE DISCIPLINES ARE WELL-SUITED FOR POSITIVE GROUP INTERACTION (SUCH AS MASK MAKING SONGWRITING, AND MUSICALLY RESPONSIVE PAINTING)

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0THE SING FOR HOPE PIANO'S PROJECT IS THE ORGANIZATION'S FLAGSHIP COMMUNITY ARTS PROGRAM INITIATIVE, BRINGING ARTIST-DESIGNED PIANO'S TO THE PARKS AND PUBLIC SPACES OF NEW YORK CITY FOR TWO WEEKS DURING THE SUMMER. EACH WINTER, AN OUTSIDE PANEL OF ADJUDICATORS FROM LEADING CULTURAL AND COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS CHOSE ARTISTS FROM THE U.S AND ABROAD, BASED ON PROPOSALS THAT ADDRESS THE ARTISTS' VISION FOR THE PIANO ARTWORK. IN THE SPRING, USING THE PIANO'S AS THEIR CANVAS, THE ARTISTS CREATE AND PAINT THESE INTERACTIVE WORKS OF ART. THE SING FOR HOPE PIANOS THEN COME ALIVE IN A THREE-WEEK SUMMERTIME PUBLIC RESIDENCY THROUGHOUT THE PARKS AND PUBLIC SPACES OF THE FIVE BOROUGHS, WHERE THEY ARE OPEN FOR ANYONE AND EVERYONE TO ENJOY. AFTER THE PIANO'S TIME ON THE STREETS, THEY ARE TRANSPORTED TO UNDER-RESOURCED SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS, AND COMMUNITY CENTERS TO BECOME HUBS FOR FUTURE OUTREACH PROGRAMS. TO DATE, SING FOR HOPE HAS PLACED OVER 500 UNIQUE PIANOS THROUGHOUT THE FIVE BOROUGHS SINCE THE PROGRAM'S LAUNCH IN 2010. THE SING FOR HOPE PIANO'S PROGRAM IS NEW YORK CITY'S LARGEST ANNUAL PUBLIC ARTS PROJECT AND HAS RECEIVED OVER 2 BILLION MEDIA IMPRESSIONS.
