Activity 2

The clinical program concentrated on the development of clinical trials in sub saharan africa. This was done through the development of a network of clinical research organizations and experts within the field of clinical trial study. This group is also working to establish a framework to understand global regulatory requirements.

Activity 3

Manufacturing. The ipm clinical trial material facility (ctm), originally built in 2005, provides an "in-house" capacity of approx. 15,000 square feet to produce microbicide gels and rings for use in phase i/ii clinical trials. In addition, the facility allowed ipm to conduct hands-on process development efforts aimed at optimizing gel manufacturing processes and scale-up procedures. The ctm facility generally has not been contemplated for large scale production or commercialization manufacture given the magnitude of these efforts from equipment, labor and control systems. To address the phase iii and commercialization supply needs, ipm intends to engage contract manufacturing organizations with extensive experience in large scale process development, phase iii supply capacity, and experience in supporting the associated regulatory compliance and submission issues associated with an approval dossiers.
