Julie Earnest: A Notion A Scream is a community choir dedicated to performing contemporary choral music by living composers with a focus on Black Latine and LGBTQ+ voices. We operate as a gift-economy ensemble with no singer fees full composer licensing and paid artistic staff welcoming 85 singers of diverse ages identities and backgrounds. We present two free benefit concerts each year partnering with aligned local nonprofits and sharing concert revenue to expand community impact. Since 2024 weve performed two sold-out concerts for nearly 500 attendees and raised funds for local organizations with plans to grow our audience and outreach in FY26 while upholding values of anti-oppression musical excellence and fair support for local artists. Part III, General

| Explanation:| PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS: A Notion A Scream is a welcoming non-auditioned SATB choir in Portland OR founded in 2024 and led by Artistic Director DeReau K. Farrar. Our community choir is an accessible and inclusive ensemble committed to raising our voices against oppressions of any kind. A Notion A Scream sings a repertoire of music created by living composers and in that way we support the livelihood of working composers and enhance the field of contemporary choral music. Our concert repertoire also focuses on music written by Living Black Latine and LGBTQ+ composers. We pay full licensing fees for each piece which supports the composers enhances the beauty of our concerts and uplifts singers and listeners. A Notion A Scream operates as a gift economy and we do not require fees from singers though we do pay our Artistic Director and Collaborative Pianist living stipends. We currently have 85 singers from many ages gender identities financial means races and ethnicities. In this ways our approach benefits everyone who would like to sing in a choir. We offer concert performances twice yearly and are committed to making every concert a benefit concert. We invite a local nonprofit organization whose mission aligns with our own to speak during the concert and to share concert revenue. In June 2025 we performed a concert entitled GIVE LOVE and raised $2,379 for two local organizations the Marie Equi Center and Rahabs Sisters. For our upcoming January 2026 concert we have engaged Prismid Sanctuary and will share fifty percent of concert proceeds with that nonprofit. In this way we are creating an outreach opportunity with every concert expanding cross-cultural awareness that is in synchrony with our values as reflected in our musical offerings. Our concerts are free for all to attend which especially benefits people living on low incomes. Since our inception in 2024 we have performed two concerts. Our first concert titled Hold Behold! was held at Reedwood Friends Church and performed for a full house of 290 people. Our second performance titled GIVE LOVE was held at TaborSpace with about 200 people in attendance. In FY26 we plan to perform in venues that can accommodate more than 400 people in order to increase our community impact for low-income attendees. In addition we hired 14 independent contractor artists from the local community for our Hold Behold! concert and maintain a policy of anti-oppression and musical excellence which includes a preference for artists who are represented by a musicians union whose identities are underrepresented in their field or undervalued in society and or whose identities and lived experiences offer appropriate contest for the music we are performing.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt8| Explanation:| PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS: A Notion A Scream is a welcoming non-auditioned SATB choir in Portland OR founded in 2024 and led by Artistic Director DeReau K.

ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0We filed on time - and have a certified mail receipt dated 10 02 2025 - but we filed on paper rather electronically. The reason we filed on paper is that we are filing a short year since we changed our fiscal year from 1 1 - 12 31 to 7 1 - 6 30. The instructions provided said to write at the top of the form that this is a SHORT YEAR FORM - CHANGE IN FISCAL YEAR and the eFile option did not give us the opportunity to write that at the top of the form. Because we assumed that the IRS instruction to write that on the form superceded the IRS instruction to file electronically we went ahead and filed manually writing that note at the top. The entire packet was returned to us received 12 18 2025. Today is 12 19 2025 and I am respectfully requesting that we not incur fines related to late filing on account of these competing instructions. Thank you.
