Black Inauguration is a prestigious event designed to celebrate and honor the remarkable achievements of Black student leaders at the University of Texas at Austin. The event shines a spotlight on Black student presidents, regardless of their affiliation with Black organizations, and presents them with symbolic gavels as a mark of their leadership and impact. In addition to these recognitions, Black Inauguration features the presentation of two distinguished awards: the Brandelyn Flunder Award and the Brianna McBride Award. The Brandelyn Flunder Award honors a UT faculty member who exemplifies Flunder's commitment to empowering and supporting students from diverse backgrounds. The Brianna McBride Award celebrates a UT student who mirrors McBrides dedication to advocacy and service, reflecting her efforts to foster diversity and drive positive change on campus. Through these honors, Black Inauguration not only acknowledges individual accomplishments but also reinforces the ongoing commitment to leadership, community, and excellence within the Black student community.$1,786$1,786
UBCA was proud to unveil a small grants program to benefit student organizations that have lost institutional support at UT Austin due to recent legislation. The recipients of our small grant program for 2024 were the Texas Black Student Association, Texas Black Homecoming Committee, the National Black Law Students Association, and Texas Black Lens. All of these organizations have the goal of serving Black students on campus for their career and leadership goals. The Texas BSA allows Black students at the University of Texas at Austin to pursue leadership roles that connect them to a larger network of Black college students across the US, providing important networking opportunities as students begin their professional careers. The Texas Black Homecoming Committee coordinates events like networking mixers with alumni, ensuring that the Black UT community remains a strong network for mutual upliftment even after graduation. Lastly, Black Lens is a student organization that gives its members on-hands experience in the entertainment industry by mobilizing members to coordinate projects like short films. These organizations are also the student communities hit hardest by SB-17, some of which lost a majority of their budgets after UT Austin ceased funding their events. The National Black Law Students association connects Black students to career engagement opportunities like LSAT prep and pipeline programs to ensure postgraduate success. Thus, the creation of the UBCA grant program has strengthened the fiscal health of the signature programs in the Black UT community by providing an organized and centralized source of funding in the wake of chaotic upheavals in fiscal support.$1,645$928
